My alarm panel had a built in Z-Wave controller but it had too many issues, so I decided to try Z-Box hub by Zooz for the 9 switches / devices I have on Z-wave.
The Z-box had a few issues and I decided to give the C8 pro a try, hope it's not to hard to get going...
I also have 20+ lights and appliances on the oldest home control system called X-10 -
LoL my X-10 is even been put on Internet based control.
It will be nice to replace all those old X-10 based devices with Z-wave or Zigbee.
I too came from a x-10 home always worked well .. but decided to update it.
Hubitat def has a learning curve, but you can lots of help here.
I would try and keep everything Zigbee if you can .. z-wave is ok .. but has MANY down sides.
to many to list .. Zigbee is easy setup and super easy to configure and replace devices if need be. I am sure you will have lots of ??'s Ask them and someone will help
Yes, you shouldn't just pull power - that can (and eventually will) result in database corruption. Always shutdown via the UI, wait for confirmation, check for red light on hub, then pull power.
More details about the power source you'd like to use would be needed... The C8/8P's z-wave radio is (unfortunately) particularly sensitive to power fluctautions, so folks here may be able to weigh in on whether or not your intended power device is a good idea or not.
For every person who says this, you can find someone else who will say exactly the opposite about why they don’t like zigbee and chose to use z-wave devices.
#1 z-wave you can / will get ghosts! ( never with ZigBee ) #2 ZigBee Super easy replacement of bad or replacement devices. #3 ZigBee in a lot of cases they have a better mesh #4 z-wave sucks LOL < just my thoughts
Yes. Note that the C-8 seems to be very particular about its 5v power. There are several threads in the forum about extensive testing that this been done with POE. So, if you experience weirdness, one troubleshooting step should be to supply power using the provided supply that comes with the C-8. It's not the "holding voltage well" that is the problem; instead, it's noise on the 5v supply.
I only have a couple of (old) zwave devices. Plenty of zigbee.
Zigbee is less expensive, from what I recall.
Personally, I have no issues at all with zigbee, perhaps due to its stronger mesh (many devices). I hate zwave, too many annoying setup issues for me back in the day. Urgh.
Also cell phone chargers and switch mode power supplies with there line input filters...
REALLY clamped the X10 carrier to nothing and brought the system crashing down.
My Father and I had extensive X10 in our homes.... with LOTS of plug in filters...
even then the system could get flakey and not respond.
Tons of signal troubleshooting with signal analyzers.
All of our X10 stuff was donated to the recycler... really was hard to do!
