Nest Integration [Limited Release]

Do the new hubs not have the Nest integration option? I just got mine the other day and it's up to date, but Nest isn't an option in the built-in apps.

They removed it as an option (on both hubs) because Google/Nest has been delaying allowing access to the data via a 3rd party like HE for a while now. HE says they will put it back once Nest starts the program back up.

I believe @tonesto7 was collaborating with someone to port over his awesome NST-Manager from ST. Not sure where that stands right now. The issue there (and like for HE's version) is you need to have a Nest developer account and creating new accounts has ALSO been placed on hold by Nest/Google it seems.

I had backup up the configuration from my C4 hub, which already had Nest integration running. I have a C5 on order, is it possible to restore that config file to C5 and continue to use Nest on the C5?

That is a question for the HE staff.. I dunno but assume a backup would backup your installed apps as well.

Quote from staff just now....

I know this is a touchy subject but I was one of the few that was able to get in on the official integration.

I added a nest protect, went through the nest app in hubitat and added the protect but there is no device or anything new. Should there be? I was hoping to us it for motion, presence, maybe a temp sensor but I am not sure whats exposed.

Thanks,

I think work on "official" integration is on hold for now (maybe forever) thanks to Google/Nest. No point in spending limited resources on something the majority of HE users can't access. I can't really speak for the folks at HE though.

If you already have a Nest Dev account you can use NST Manager link above, if not I think you might be out of luck..

You don't even need a nest developer account for NST manager currently  although I have one I'm not using it.
I was also one of the lucky ones to get the HE intrigration before they ran out, but I had to many issue with it so it's disabled and I'm using NST manager

That is cool to know thx!

Assuming I got to NST Manager what does it expose from the protects?

The stuff your after in not possible, we would all like them to expose the PIR to their API but it's not. The only thing that is exposed is the smoke stuff, battery and if your home or away.

Boris what Nest devices do you have and what issues did you have with the HE integration that made you switch? Just curious

Nest hello, nest thermostat, 5 protects and virtual present device. I'm not sure if I had issues or not but my hub kept stalling and since I have disabled it it's been fine so it suggests it was the problem but other stuff was going on aswell. The only way for me to check would be to re enable it for a week or so but I don't want to move all my automations again right now. I mostly moved as it not being supported currently until nest sorts there stuff out, where as NST manager is.

Wouldn't you be able to use this: Local execution  |  Actions on Google Smart Home  |  Google Developers

to continue hubitat integrations?? It would require talking to google assistant first but I'm doing that anyways as is with current deployment software, and it would maintain local autonomy rather than having to go to cloud for response.

Any updates on the status of Works with Nest and the future of this integration?

As you may know, Google has decided to shut down the "Works with Nest" program, along with the Nest API. They recommend using Google Assistant, instead:

I am indeed aware of that announcement but I have also read in numerous places that they have back peddled on this to some degree as yet to be defined. A number is third parties seem hopeful that they will define a new path for third party integration. Have you heard that as well?

The 'official Nest integration was deprecated and is no longer offered. But there is a user created version called NST Manager. I've been using it for a few months now and it works for me, but your mileage may vary given the wacky nature of the Nest APIs lately.

I would love to see this come back for those us of that still have Nest accounts. It should work just fine until they decide to actually shut it down right?
