Zse50

So Got my second unit. Downloaded same files as in the first one. Sound numbers not the same. Which is ok since I'm using the search method. Just a little puzzling. And still have the additional sounds with the underscore.

The file order seems to be related to the raw file system order. I found that if I formatted the drive (defaults with window formatter), then copied the files again they were in the order they copied. Unfortunately Windows seems to copy in a random order. So I tried again and used TeraCopy to queue up the files in the order I wanted (alphabetical). After copying this way they showed up in the right order.

Could probably write a batch script that would loop the files in alpha order and copy them one by one to ensure they go in the correct order.

As for the _ files, I am guessing your system is making some sort of backup or system file with the _, and it is a hidden file. If you show all files including hidden I am guessing they are on the disk. Are you on Windows or something else?

You were right on the _files. They were hidden files. I was using MAC and could not find any way to get them to show up. So I hooked the unit up to a Windows machine and there they were. Deleted them. Plugged unit back in and configured. And all was good. Thanks for the suggestion.

I haven't tried the file order. Try that some other day.

EDIT: Found this little bit of info. Wish I had known this sooner:
When copying files from a macOS system to a non-native file system, such as FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS, macOS may create companion files prefixed with "._" (dot underscore). These files are known as AppleDouble files or metadata files.

I saw some mentions of the files sizes and the incorrect windows alert for sound 3. I to had a ticket open with Zoon about this and they provided the corrected files. They have also posted all the updated (mono) files on their site in mp3 format if anyone wants/needs the originals. It's at the same link posted earlier in this thread and I'll copy it here.

There is a Basic Z-Wave tool driver. Would it be possible to use that to set some of the other parameters in this device?

That should work totally fine, yes.

Yes that will work, you can also use my scanner tool which will pull all the settings and info from the device itself, and then present them as settings in this special driver. [RELEASE] Z-Wave Universal Device Scanner

You can switch to that to configure extra settings then switch back to the system driver. Just be warned the system driver may set some settings back how they were if it is one the system driver handles.

Just got mine. Added via SmartStart. Decided to see how long the battery will last. After 12 hours, it went from 100% to 62%, so at least one day.

Cool use case for the battery backup could be if you are concerned about power outages combined with water leaks where you live. You could setup leak sensors, a ZAC36 (wth battery backup), and this chime all with direct associations so even if you hub is offline you can get alerts still. Or if Hub is on a UPS you could do it without the associations. If you have an extended power outage there is a good chance your internet may also be down, and then mobile notifications wont be working.

Even if a pipe leak wasn't a concern in an outage, (I have a well pump), the melting ice in a fridge could cause a puddle.

edit: Plus, as I've found, rigging up battery backup for a miniPod is not trivial.

I was just curious as to how long the battery might last. We have a back up generator with a 1000 gallon tank,

so unless the outage is more than about 2 weeks, we’re good. Then we have bigger issues.

But will your generator run two weeks, lol?
I have doubts about mine-it is just a glorified lawn mower engine, after all.
My tank is more camaflouged, lol:

edit: That's a Sinope tank level sensor by the hatch.

I've got the same sensor. I'm guessing at the 2 weeks. We can always go to our vacation home if it longer than that.

Am I mistaken, but I thought Associations did not work with devices paired as LR? Would these devices then have to be paired as mesh?

Yes they would have to be mesh for associations

Victor,
@gopher.ny

The Simple Door Chime application by Bryan Copeland @bcopeland uses the “soundEffects” attribute to offer a list of mp3 files, not requiring a specific number to be chosen by us.

Think the ZSE50 driver could adapt that bit of code and provide a “play a selection” command?

Please :pray:t3:

Tom

Having no access to a Windows PC, I found out how to remove them via command line.

dot_clean -m /Volumes/NO\ NAME

NO NAME is the name of the volume.

Dang, these are not available to buy in Canada. Could be a few more weeks according to Zooz. If anyone wants to sell a couple of "used" ones and would ship them to Canada message me.

Sept 20th, Now available in Canada!!

There are also a couple of “dot directories” that may be there.

I use:
rm -rf /Volumes/NO\ NAME/.??*

Don’t want to remove everything in . or .. folders :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I noticed something that may help some folks with pairing:

The audio from the unit about pairing and releasing LIES. Don't believe it! lol

I have four of these and the sound files played during pairing and unpairing "can" be swapped (or mismatched). So there may be folks out who have a unit like one of mine where three presses and hearing "pairing activated" message when the unit is actually in un-pair mode. Using the other button and hearing the "releasing activated" message allowed the unit to pair.
