Ok still does not work...
I have tried it in RM by saying to turn the group on or off, each bulb on or off, or the switch on or off. all of these features do the samething if I activate them from the app, none work if done from the switch.
trying that now.
and that didn't do it either..
OK, let's take one step back and verify something, please. Can you bring up the device details page for the Light Switch you are trying to use as the trigger for the other bulbs? Watch the 'Switch' status on that page as you manually turn the switch on and off and see whether or not the switch is reporting physical status updates to the Hubitat hub. If the switch status doesn't change from 'off' to 'on' on that page, then the switch cannot be used to trigger those bulbs.

Have you looked at the event in that switch event details to verify that the on/off are populated with a type of "physical"? Not all drivers populate that property, and without it "physical on" will never trigger.

Ok I will try that. it was working under wink and will be a huge issue if it does not work here as this is the most important thing to work as far as my wife is concerned...
This is indeed the issue at hand. The switch is a older z-wave switch that doesn't have instant status (or whatever the z-wave equivalent of that is called). So it isn't reporting a change in state back to the Hubitat. You could start polling that specific switch, but that increases z-wave traffic quite a bit (and could create issues of its own).
Edit: If you go the z-wave poller route, I'd recommend polling as few z-wave switches as possible.

it does appear it is only logging the digital presses and not the physical ones. What to I do to fix this? I am open to just buying a newer switch too. I just have to have this working.
Polling is evil. Lol. Replace the switch with a zwave plus version.
But, yes, polling (via the Z-Wave poller app) in small doses does work. Still slower than a reporting switch, but free...

Install the built-in z-wave poller app. Select only that switch. See if that works. At some later point of time replace it with the z-wave plus switch of your choice.

ok I will replace the switch. but how do I do polling until it comes in? is the Inovelli Z-Wave Switch (Red Series) or black series ok to get? is there a better one to get? I really don't care, I just want to get one that will work as needed.

See above post, it walks you through installation of the app.
There are 5 or 6 good zwave plus brands. GE/Honeywell/Jasco, Inovelli, Zooz, Homeseer, etc. They all work a little different, and everyone has their own preferences/favorites.
I'm a GE/Jasco guy, some love Inovelli, other Zooz. You see where I'm going here.

@JasonJoel has an instructions link posted above. Try polling your existing switch first. Polling just one is not too bad.
However, you can't go wrong with any of the brands listed by him either.

Ok I will read it. thanks. right off though when I select the z-wave poller my switch does not show up. maybe the guide addresses this, just wanted to put that out there.
Dang. This is the GoControl switch right? Can you show the device page for that switch (paste a screenshot).
Edit - if it doesn't have Poll as an option on the device page, it won't show up in z-wave poller.
Ahhh - you need to change the driver to "Generic Zwave Switch" and then hit the Configure button on the device page.
That's the wrong driver for that switch.

"Generic Z-Wave Smart Switch" is for z-wave PLUS devices only, and the poller app won't let you poll zwave plus devices. I know... that isn't super obvious...
