I successfully added my first Zwave device using SmartStart. When I now try to add additional devices, SmartStart is no longer available in the app— Only “find by device” or “ Find by brand” or “Add device manually. “
Is this a limitation (You could only add one SmartStart device at a time) Is or a bug or user error?
Those screenshots look like they could be the app, but they're not really what the app is best at--you can access that interface (the regular admin interface from your hub) from any browser, and you'll probably have a lot better experience if you do it from a browser of your choice directly instead.
To use Smart Start in the mobile app, you need to go the Devices (bulb icon) tab, following the instructions documented for Z-Wave LR devices here:
If I visit my hub via a browser, I can’t use my phone’s camera to scan the SmartStart QR code as I did before.
If I visit my hub’s static ip via Safari on my phone, I see the exact same interface as I do from within the app when I select “log in to hub.”
Here is the screenshot from the app’s Device tab from within the app— no “+ Device” selection button in the app at all right now— only selections to collapse, the view or hide no room devices or unsupported devices from the device tab hamburger menu.
I was able to add a SmartStart device via the app once before (my first), but I have not physically installed it yet. Using the Hubitat SmartStart Manager app, I can see that my original/first Smart Start added device (dimmer switch) is there awaiting physical installation.
I’m still stuck and not sure how to proceed. I have about 15 more SmartStart capable devices to add so want to figure a way to get the capability back vs using manual entry or standard Zwave pairing/associations.
Technically the first screenshots displaying the ip address are all from within the app but logged in via its browser view. There is no separate browser window open on my phone (Safari or Chrome), the Hubitat app is just acting as a shell displaying the hub login.
I did see your second screenshot with the “Add Smart Start Device” button on my first (successful) attempt to add via SmartStart, but that screen is no longer coming up/available (probably because there is no “+” button on the Devices tab).
I have rebooted the Hubitat a few times (from the app) with no luck to get the “+ Device” button to appear on the Devices (bulb) tab.
Just rebooted my iPhone and still no “+” on Devices tab in the app.
All your screenshots up above you are accessing the hubs web UI via the app, not using the apps built in features. You can ONLY scan a SmartStart code is using the app itself. Do not "connect to hub" which takes you to the web UI of the hub. You have to open the app and then click on the Devices (light bulb) tab at the bottom. Then click the (+) on that tab of the app.
I should not have a cloud based connection. The Hubitat and phone are on the same home network; iPhone connected via WiFi and Hubitat via Ethernet. I can see both devices in my router’s client list with ip’s on the same network.
I’m still baffled as to why the + device button is no longer available from the device tab in the app Which I guess is precluding me from getting to the “Add Device via Smart Start” button.
App version on iPhone is 2.0.2 and current according to App Store.
I did try using the embedded browser to log into hub because it was the only way to get to “add device”. All subsequent attempts as you will see by later screenshots are from the native app device tab—- no “+” button on Device ribbon, only hamburger menu with choices as outlined before to hide or consolidate items in the device tab.
I did not realize that it would do that but I just tested it. On my local LAN, the + is there. Force closed the app and disconnected from Wifi. Back in the app the + is gone.
This is in the current beta (Test Flight) version of the app but has not been released to the production (App Store) version yet. It shouldn't really change anything, just tell you what the current status is, but you can find instructions here if you wanted to test that version: [BETA RELEASE] New Hubitat Mobile App available in TestFlight for iOS - version 2.0.0
Do you have any unusual home network setup, like multiple vLANs, large subnets (like /23 or less), disabled mDNS, guest networks your phone might have connected to instead, or anything else that could be causing problems detecting this?
The mobile app itself requires login, so that much is good either way.
