Hi, new user, first post. I added a few Z wave devices to my new C8 hub, which is ethernet-connected to my router. A couple 800LR Zooz switches and a zooz LR temp monitor. I was able to load the drivers for them and they work fine it appears. I can’t tell if they were added as standard mesh devices or LR devices, but I assume the former, even though they are all 800-LR capable. As I added them manually on the app, I'd like to use SmartStart to add additional devices, especially LR devices. However SmartStart is not available in my "add device” screen. I’m directly connected to the hub, not via cloud, able to get to add device screen (not that bug), but no option to add an LR device, no smartstart button. I’ve rebooted, reloaded the app, latest software and firmware. What am I missing?
The OP’s screenshot is showing a web page from the hub’s browser-based UI, wrapped in the mobile app. That’s what happens when one uses the “connect to hub” button in the mobile app.
@velvetfoot is correct, that’s not where to add a smart start device. For that, you’d tap on the “devices” tab on the menu bar at the bottom of the mobile app (which is highlighted in green in @velvetfoot’s screenshot), and then on the plus sign in the upper right of the devices page. You should see the option to add a smart start device.
No beta version of the mobile app is needed, AFAIK.
The most recent version of the mobile app was released in the App Store earlier this week.
What issue are you referring to? The mobile app not correctly detecting cloud vs. local connection to the hub (which isn’t a problem in this case, per the OP)?
OK, I believe this is what you’re referring to then.
The OP’s screenshot confirms the app knows the connection is local. So that’s unlikely to be related. And was addressed in the newest version of the mobile app released this week.
I think I am victimized by the ios app stuck on cloud mode issue. I mis-thought I was in local mode when hitting the connect to hub button under registered hubs, but as you said, that just takes me to the URL. Now I understand that, so thank you.
I’m unable to get to local mode in the app. On the same LAN, connected via wifi, turned my mobile data off, have turned phone off/on, but still indicates cloud mode, where I can’t add a device using the app. Can you show me how to reliably get to local mode in the app? Sorry, I suspect it’s been covered on another post, but the fixes I read about aren’t working, thanks in advance,
Alright, app is updated I think (can't tell, but ios setting is for updates to occur automatically to apps, so I'll go with that), but I stumbled on the fix for my local/cloud issue. It was an app ios setting for hubitat. . .allow access to LAN was turned off in my Hubitat app. I must have fat-fingered something. Turning LAN access on fixed it I think (duh). . .now I see the option to add a device via smartstart in the app devices tab. . .thanks all, I'm on the steep part of the learning curve right now,

Glad you got your App working. I am new to Hubitat and was planning on not using the App, but unfortunately it seems to be the only way to add ZWave LR devices. Regardless, my App is stuck in cloud mode but I do not see the option you referenced to "allow LAN access". Could you explain a little more how you got it working as I have gone through the settings on my phone, the settings in the App and on my Desktop Hubitat dashboard and cannot seem to find anything that is out of order.
I have that correctly set and it still will not leave cloud mode. I even downloaded the beta TestFlight app as I know this was an issue....I thought it was addressed in the regular release version but I still tried the Beta Verison.
I have all the settings correct (unless I am missing something but Local Access is allowed and Background App Refresh too) but it still will only connect over cloud mode. Extremely frustrating because all I need to do is add one LR device (and I need to add it as a LR device given its distance to the hub and other devices) and this one issue is keeping the whole thing down.
Either way, thank you for trying and replying back so quickly!
Also, for the cloud mode issue. Are you certain your phone and hub are on the exact same LAN / Subnet? No guest network or IoT device isolation setup? One of the most basic ways to check if the IP if you mobile and the IP of your hub, they should both be on the same subnet like 192.168.1.XXX
On the home screen of the app, tap the Hub Name, it should show the Hub IP there (the one the app gets from the cloud server). Then go to the app 3 lines menu (hamburger), then app settings, that shows your phones IP.
Before your post I actually just figured out how to add it manually by reading one of your notes in a reply to someone else.....and using a little stubbornness on my part. Thank you for all your replies—sincerely—across the various threads as with some determination it helps to piece things together. I am still new to Habitat but I feel I am pretty good at rummaging through all options and piecing things together....so any bread crumb helps light a fire.
As to the cloud issue for the App....my only need for the App was to use SmartStart so not really a problem as long as I can add devices on the web platform; so great workaround. (Before choosing the Hubitat platform I read about the App not being the greatest so to be honest I came in to Hubitat with no intention of using mobile). I am definitely on the same LAN and I purposefully have a completely open network while I am putting together a new automation setup so I do feel it is an issue with the App.
But I can rest a bit more now so THANK YOU!. At some point I figure out the App in case I need to use it for anything.
Maybe, but the cloud/local issue was resolved in one of the last updates and I have not seen anyone complain about it since. So if there is an issue it seems it is specific to your setup somehow.
