I'm looking for a simple button to turn off bedside lamps when going to sleep, without yelling at Alexa to turn them off. Think of that drowsy moment when your significant other says turn off the light and lean over to the nightstand and hit a simple type of button.
I've picked challenging products in the past (sonoff Wireless switch SNZM-01, and Aqara cube - threw it at the wall) that i'm trying to avoid. I'm looking at this page, but nothing is leaping out at me: List of Compatible Devices | Hubitat Documentation
Have you gone down the Lutron Caseta rabbit hole yet? If you have a Lutron Caseta Pro hub, Pico remotes are amazing bedside remotes because you can even put one on their pedestal and have up to 10 buttons. I have them by every bed in my house plus living room and even in my car.
This Aotec one could be the one... Looks pretty small. Thanks!
And I'm trying to stay away from Lutron. That is another level of expense that I'd rather try to avoid, however my traditional goto with Inovelli/Zooz devices are both getting more $$. The pico remotes are interesting, but in a drowsy haze for me, a little much.
100% I have the exact same setup in my house. Pico remotes work reliably and very quickly. And, I have yet to change a battery in any of them after multiple years of usage.
That is understandable, especially if you're only buying 1-2 Pico remotes. The financials do not look nearly so bad if you need a higher quantity of Pico remotes, as they are usually pretty inexpensive. Once you spread the cost of the Caseta Pro hub across all of the Pico remotes, and factor in much lower costs for batteries (Pico's are rated for a 10 year battery life), then the numbers do not look quite so bad.
Of course, once you try Lutron, there is no digging one's self out of that rabbit hole! Switches, Dimmers, and Fan Controllers soon start appearing in your home, due to the extreme reliability and performance. It is a slippering slope!
Should be very reliable, and simple to use. Single button, so as long as you always turn the lamps on/off at the same time works for your needs. If you want finer control (turn on or off only one lamp or both lamps) then you'd want to see if the Aeotec supports tap, double-tap, and hold. Tap=toggle one lamp, double-tap=toggle the other lamp, Hold, turn off both lamps.
This also looks interesting...give's you a few more buttons in what seems like a layout that would be easy to select butttons via touch. Not 100% sure it's fully supported...nice price!
I should have also mentioned i found a really old Tradfri button in my 'smart stuff box' that i was messing around with, that was also glitchy. This one works better? Do you need the hub to connect?
I am another user of the Zooz Zen34 button remote. It has been great so far and very handy. I now have like 6 in my home. They also now have LR versions so that will potentially help if you had any reception concerns.
The regular Zen34 is a 2 button devices that support single/double tap/ hold and release events. With a advanced driver you can also do taps up to 4 for each button.
There is also a newer version that has 5 buttons as well which could be nice Incase of use case.
In our setup were we use it in this same situation we have single tap up that turns off the lights and puts the house to sleep at night and disables the light automations, single dap down that wakes everything back up and enables automations. The a double tap down that will take several lights in the room and shift through light effects for several devices. Double tap up resets the ambiance Lighting to normal lighting.
It works great and gets allot of use. I do see potential for the 4 buttons remote at some point, but right now it works so well why potentially mess it up. All of the automations above are handled in the Hubitat Button controller app as well.
I've been a big user of modes (with virtual switches linked with ring alarm) for quite a while now. I feel like I'm slowly moving to dinosaur status here with that model.
I know if it's not broke, don't fix it, but a few times i've had the the VS fail, and crazy alarms go off when i open the door in the morning. Instead of creating more rule machine with virtual switch vs mode checks, i may have to think about this a bit.
I have a ZEN34LR on my night table, and in several other places as well. One click on the up button: all lights on. One click on the down button: all lights off. Three clicks down toggles the bedside lights. I did a toggle on the down button because I didn't want to accidentally turn on all the lights. I put it on a contact strip on the wood, vs the wall.
