Schlage Encode

I just received a Schlage Encode WiFi door lock, and i am having trouble trying to figure out if i can pair it or not. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

"WiFi" doesn't pair. You just install a driver, create a virtual device and then assign the specific driver.

There might be a community cloud integration, but there is no built-in support for Schlage WiFi locks.

I have no idea how to do that

Try this: [RELEASE] Schlage WiFi Lock Support

It will be a cloud connection, not local.

Wifi devices are often limited to working only with the vendors cloud system. When selecting devices it is best to avoid Wifi unless you know ahead of time there is a local integration. Or if they are Matter there is a good chance for support (but not Matter locks just yet).

I can live with a cloud connection. I just would like it on my Hubitat system so my wife doesnt have to download another app. Can you point me in the right direction?

Click on the link in @jtp10181's post (immediately above yours in this thread).

Can you clarify? You aren't giving us much to go off of.

  • You don't know how to add user code? (AKA a community based driver)
  • You don't know how to create a virtual device?
  • You don't know how to add your information to the virtual device?
  • You don't know how to add to a dashboard?

Like JTP posted above, that link shows details if you click into it. Here is the instructions from the developer... GitHub - schwark/hubitat-schlage: Hubitat module for Schlage WiFi locks

I added the app, and filled in my username and password that i use to access the Schlage Home app. The instructions then state that a lock device would be created. I then went to devices, and there is no lock device created. So I then tried to add a virtual device. When i go to try and change the device type, there are no drivers for a Schlage wifi lock. I have no idea what i am doing wrong.

Open the app again and click done. Check the logs for errors. We donโ€™t know how to use that app either. I just found it for you by searching.

I don't have that lock either, I am just going by what typically happens with a device like this.

Do what JTP says, if it is beyond that, maybe post in that thread about the locks, and see if anyone who has one of these has experience with your symptoms.

Thank you very much to everyone for your replies. The lock is a Schlage FE789WB. I am still unable to get the app to create a device.

My interpretation of the instructions would imply that it needs the lock names from the cloud. An unsuccessful login would not acquire names and thus child lock devices wouldn't be created. I have NOT looked at the code to see if my proposition holds water. BUT I do not have that lock and I don't have an ID/pw for the site. I installed the App and added bogus id/pw and indeed, no child devices were created AND no log errors.

If it is within the return period, I'd suggest returning it and getting a lock that connects directly to Hubitat - i.e. a z-wave or zigbee lock.

Poor design decision on the part of whoever wrote that integration. A silent fail is very difficult to debug.

There's a debug switch I didn't see the first time. It's at the top and my brain looks for those at the bottom... because that's where I put mine

There's a name for that.. but I'm forgetting what it's called. Anyway, with debugging on, it tells enough of the story.

I must be missing something as i dont even see anything in the logs relating to schlage

Did you turn on Debug logging in the app as indicated by @csteele?

I went to Schlage's Web site. They have a connect version of that lock for z-wave. While I was there I saw that there are integrations for half a dozen home automation products. Alexa, Google Home, Homey, Ring, and some more I don't recall. Hubitat has integrations for Google Home, Alexa, and others. Maybe there is a round about way to at least lock and unlock with hubitat using those integrations together. Just a thought. I'm my case, I wound up replacing my Nest WiFi lock with a similar one which uses z-wave which keeps the lock operation independent from the status of the Internet or any cloud services.
