Request that ZooZ 4-in-1 Sensor be removed from compatibility list (warn users when they add these devices)

yikes. This is why my devices are not reacting from my dashboard the past day or so. Installed the 2nd one this weekend to my C7.

It had been a while so I decided to go back and try it and capture a couple screenshots.

I have a UBZ-7 as a secondary to my C-7. I have a lot of Aeon stuff and they make it easy to pick unsecured or S0 by single or double clicking the action button. I'd joined an Aeon Multisensor 6 and the C-7 insisted it join with S0, despite me clicking the button once.

I Excluded it and then using PC Controller, I clicked ADD then squeezed the Multisensor6 in the corner once and it joined and became device #63.

Then looking it Hubitat's device list... nothing. Looking in ZWave Details, nothing. But much later (*) I looked and there it was in ZWave Details as a ghost. I clicked the Discover button and was happy to see:

Others have said the same thing.. that it works, to slip around the requirements of security bootstrapping that Hubitat has due to Certification requirements. And now we know it works for the UBZ-7 too.

(*) I knew it would work and show, so when it didn't in the first minute, I went on to do something else and forgot to check again til hours had gone by. But there it was.

Thanks for the testing and screenshots. I haven't started migration yet but this is good to know for when I do.

Trying not to be a pia but do you recall how you downloaded PC Controller V5? I spent an hour on the Silabs website and found a diskfull of utilities but could not identify this.

John

There's more info in this thread including steps to use a zwave stick.. Zooz 4-in-1 (ZSE40), C7, S0

The PC Controller software no longer appears to be available for separate download. You now have to download Simplicity Studio 5. Once it downloads you choose to install by technology and select zwave.

Once it installs you select "tools" and you'll find PC Controller under that.

So I was having issues with my zwave switches going unresponsive. Zwave switches just stop responding to hub
I took some advice and removed all the zooz 4in1s that I had. 9 in total. My issues went away after that. I had included these with a secondary controller without security and they still caused an issue. These things aren't cheap and they're pretty worthless to me at the moment. Not to mention most of my house doesn't currently function without sensors. How can this be fixed?

thesmarthouse website now lists compatibility as below.

  • Hubitat (C-5 or earlier hub only, may not work correctly on C-7 due to S0 security issues)

Yeah wish that was the case 3 weeks ago when I bought the c7 hub.

Or when the Zooz items were on the Black Friday sale....

I'm curious. Do you have a C5 or a C7 hub? I have a C5 with 3 of these zooz sensors...

I have a c7.

I don't understand what's going on.
I have one of these guys, without any issues:

Also:

I only have one of these, (on a C7).
Should I get rid of it? (I had no issues in pairing it. I also have one more to setup.)
(I'll replace it with an Aeotec, multi-sensor 6).

One does not seem to bother. I'm assuming that the issue is when you get multiple they overwhelm the hub.

Thanks for the walk-through.

You don't say explicitly, but at this step when you re-joined the device using the UZB stick, did you:

  • Use the special single button click options on the device to allow you to pick unsecured or SO?
  • Did the security dialog appear in the PC Controller app and allow you to uncheck all security? Or did it just default to no security, no security options offered?

Just want to confirm that you're proposing this as a general way to get any S0 device to join w/out security using a UZB-7 stick, or specifically speaking about Aeotec devices.

Thanks!

The "answer" posted more than a few times in many individual topics is: "Use a Secondary Controller (a ZWave USB Stick + SiLabs PC Controller) to do the Include part of joining a device. I don't remember reading details.. especially about the delay there is for Hubitat to update itself. Then, this question about the UZB-7 specifically came up and I decided to test + document.

Apparently not document enough though... for some.

Many/most Aeon devices have their "Action button" to initiate a suite of features and options. One click, two, hold for 6 seconds, 20 seconds, etc. The PC Controller didn't offer me an option. It followed the Aeon. I only tried a single click for this, since why would anyone use a secondary to get S0 when Hubitat does that without help.

This test was triggered by the notion that it's a function of 700 series that dictates a Security Bootstrap. It's not.

Same Question as JohnRob where do you download the PC Controller Software?

Thanks,

Jim

I just picked up a ZooZ 4-in-1 for use with my C-7. I'll probably leave it in the box until this gets sorted out. Or maybe I'll do as @lewis.heidrick has often suggested and get a UBZ-7.

hate to say it but when i switched over from st to hubitat i tossed my two 4-1 along with std zwave switches.. even when it did work it chewed through a set of batteries in weeks..
