I have three purchased soon after they became available that I very quickly put on cheap Kasa plugs that get cycled 20 seconds off/on twice a week at 3am. I've not had any issues since. Not optimal but it works for now.
But where is your mad-scientist discoverer spirit?!
Happy to come over to your place and setup as many dangerous experiments as you'd like.
I added mine to usb zigbee switches so i can control them and added a rule to alert me when they stop sending messages for a few cycles (on current setup i think around 1/2 hour
) so i can reboot them.. Usually only goes offline once every month or two.
Thats why i use @kkossev drivers that have the attributes i need to montor to alert me.
ie
Considering I am doing tons of dangerous experiments anyway and suffering the consequences singlehandedly, it would be nice to share the burden! You're always welcome!
A quick pre-holiday update on the "long term" test of changing sensitivity settings to keep the sensors from lock-ups where they stop reporting motion/presence...
~3 1/2 weeks since I started the test and still zero lock-ups w/the five sensors, all have been solid, reacting/reporting w/out issue.
Still too short a period to declare victory, but hopefully things will continue this way. That would be a nice holiday gift.
Or maybe it was the Zigbee changes a few updates back. I don’t think that mine have required a reboot in over a month and I don’t do anything special to keep them working. They used to frequently lock up (at least weekly, and one would lock up every couple days). The one in my wife’s office was giving me fits until I realized that there was a battery operated analog clock on the wall next to it
It has mysteriously stopped running
I don't remember seeing anything in the Zigbee changes that I thought at the time might have any effect on the Linptech devices. Just did a quick review of 2.3.7-2.3.9 and don't see anything that looks like it might affect the Linptech. Did you have a specific Zigbee update you're thinkging of?
I remember Mike saying something was added to make some device I don’t own keep working, and since I don’t have said device, I promptly forgot about it. But either way, my Linptech sensors have been working fine for about the same amount of time. Maybe not related.
Found it. Probably not related, but I don’t know:
“seemed to help with the sonoff zbmicro getting all stupid and not responding to commands after a period of time.
In the end the hub should be responding to these two messages, even though this is the first device that I've seen that send these requests.”
OK, thanks. I don't see anything in the release notes going back to 2.3.6 (looked at one more release), so I have my doubts there was any change in the hub FW intended to resolve Linptech issues. They did add a built-in driver in 2.3.8, but there are now notes about doing anything to make the Linptechs behave better.
But no matter how we win, it's still a win.
Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your rule? I would like to get this setup as well. Thanks!
For setting on a shelf/horizontal surface I attach them to a pico remote stand. Very stable.
Mine has been fine, but that's a good idea, if I had any Pico stands.
I'll PM you my mailing address, please send them in batches of five.
You could have. This started because I had a spare. Ended up buying one more. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutron-Caseta-Pedestal-for-Pico-Remoteas-White-L-PED1-WH-L-PED1-WH/204718235
At $11 that is very unlikely...you are too kind, but you way underestimate my cheapy-ness.
Wait, did I say that!? Damn, my wife's frugal ways have really messed up my spendthrift tendencies over the years.
Ditto
I just replaced 4 of Linptech sensors with Meross MS600 mmWave/PIR matter sensors.
These are BIG but hopefully will work better.
It is bigger in some dimensions but not as huge as I first thought...biggest issue in my house would be shape and build, the giant "eye" on it would likely get a "No" from my wife based on some past attempts w/similar looking devices.
Just for fun can you post a pic of the two next to each other?
Here it is:
I am happy, my wife is not that picky about my toys and sometime exposed wires. Actually she likes all my hands/commands free automations. WAF is very high. But she becomes very upset when something fails. This included Linptech lockups.
