Now that it's 2026, thought i'd ask the question. What newly released product did you purchase in 2025 for your smart home that integrates with Hubitat that you're suprised how well it's worked?
I've been in the smart home game for 10+ years, mostly buying Inovelli, Hue, and Zooz stuff. Curious if there are any new vendors to take a look at, and with those any additional automations to consider.
Not a new vendor, but I did purchase a new Aqara FP2 at the end of last year. (Was the 5th one for me.).
These now integrate directly and locally with the Hubitat hub and work quite well… once one has figured out how to help it remove the ghosts… a few well placed entry/exits made all the difference for my setup.
I also purchased several Inovelli mmWave dimmers and am eagerly awaiting their arrival!
I never had a success in this area. And almost always present ghosts is a show stopper in my case for using FP2 sensors. A very reliable sensors is a key for all my automations.
I bought some Candio contact and leak sensors.
Both types working faultlessly and I haven't had to touch them. They stay connected and report battery levels at regular intervals.
After the long wait the Inovelli Blue mmWave switches for occupancy detection was my largest purchase. You have to have the right switch location in the room but so far I have 3 rooms up and running with the mmWave tuned to occupancy and now get better indication of when a room becomes unoccupied vs. using my Ecobee thermostat sensors in those rooms.
Although I have both Zwave and Zigbee devices (along with Hue and Lutron), l tend to prefer Zigbee as they are less expensive and easier to deal with (no Zwave exclusion issues and no ghosts). During 2025, my Zigbee purchases have been almost exclusively Third Reality devices. I have purchased smartplugs, motion sensors, vibration sensors, temperature/humidity sensors. contact sensors, and button contacts. They have all worked well with Hubitat. If I need additional devices in 2026, they will likely be Third Reality.
I installed 2 Aqara FP1E mmwave sensors and am very happy with how well they work. Very simple to setup with automatic room calibration and so far not noticing any false positives. I also added 4 Sonoff Zigbee USB switches and have been pleasantly surprised with how well they work as repeaters. I only purchased them to reboot a few Linptech mmwave sensors, but after switching to @kkossev ’s Tuya switch driver and enabling turbo mode, I discovered that each one very quickly attracted quite a few child devices. The best repeaters that I have bought in years.
Very surprised to hear myself say this (and cheating a bit as I bought it in Dec 2024), but the Third Reality Night Light (community topic) is my favorite new device in "2025." Is it odd to love a night light?
I have two and don't really use them as night lights, I have the motion sensor on them disabled. I use them w/a rule to set them to one of three colors to communicate window/door status for a group of windows/doors that I want to know the status of before I leave the house or go to bed.
Runs like a top, stays connected. What more could you ask? I have the Matter version, there is also a Zigbee version. It's a tad bulky, but that hasn't been an issue for me. Very picky wife is actually fine w/how they look.
Yes, the Aqara FP2 mmWave sensor does connect to your home network via WiFi. It supports the HomeKit communications protocol, and thus can be added directly to a HE C8 Pro hub running the built-in “HomeKit Controller” integration.
Other options are to use Home Assistant or Apple Home as middleware.
I think the C7 and up have the home kit controller integration as well. My C7 keeps asking me to install my Ecobees through Homekit on the home page (I know I can turn that off, I just don't in case I get something like the FP2 in the future)
While HE hubs earlier than the C8 Pro will discover these network based devices, when you try to use the HomeKit Controller you’ll be met with a message informing you that the C8 Pro is required.
I am mostly ZWave, and mostly Zooz. I had some fun with the ZSE50 with some self recorded MP3s uploaded to the device to over the holidays.
While not new, I like the ZEN32 in a few select locations in the home to launch area specific scenes. Was able to toggle the LED brightness and colors to mean different things in a few rules.
I have several ZEN77 dimmers with some paired together via direct association (pairs and threes) so I can enable multi location dimming of the same fixture. That is easy to do and works very well.
I have a couple of ZEN76 on/off switches that performed poorly in my ZWave network. I changed (repaired them) them to ZWave LR and they have been problem free. My "Policy" is try them as mesh but if they are unreliable, repair them as LR. I found the LR pairing procedure awkward (due to Huibitat) but it did work in the end.
I use a ZAC38 range extender to monitor power on an important branch circuit. Because ZAC38 has a battery it can send in a power down message to Hubitat when AC is lost to it. So I always know if that circuit is powered up (think false GFCI trips).
I have a few Zigbee contact sensors that I use for door closures (regular doors and garage doors). These work well and less expensive than ZWave. Also have a few Zigbee temp/humidity sensors, These work well and have shown surprisingly good battery life. All the zigbee are third reality. Only snag was a bug in the T/H driver but that has been fixed since by the author.
I put in a couple Matter switch dongles just to wade into Matter. They paired well and have been trouble free.
I also have a couple Schlage BE469 deadbolt locks but would recommend folks not use them. So many problems and too much hand holding. I don't think Schlage is very committed to ZWave.
