THIRDREALITY Multi-Function Night Light < LOVE this little Gadget!

Just got a THIRDREALITY Multi-Function Night Light, Zigbee Repeater, 3-in-1 Combines a Motion Sensor, a Illumination Sensor and RGB Color Night Light
Wow what a neat little gadget ! Works real well easy setup
And top it all off has a amazing Zigbee Repeater!

I setup this to show when the garage doors are open =- Red Light
I setup this to show when the front door is open =- Blue Light
I setup this up as a nightlight using lux =- Orange Light

Thanks for sharing your experience! I have been thinking about doing the same thing that you mentioned regarding using the color capabilities of this to signal when all doors are locked, etc, but was waiting to hear from others about how well it worked as a Zigbee device. My one question to you is; how chatty is this device? With the motion, lux, and rgbw; does it create a lot of events on the logs page under device stats?

So I assume using RM/custom commands to set color based on door trigger events? Wasn't aware that this thingy could do that. Hmmm...

I'd be more interested in the Matter version, I already have so many Zigbee repeaters.

Other owners appear to include @rlithgow1, @JB10, @lairdknox, @bill.d, @Hatallica, @joshlobe, @JB_TX all seem to have this. Any comments from you guys (dare I say the Nightlight peanut gallery  ) and @WarlockWeary
on how noisy/messagy it may or may not be, Zigbee vs. Matter version, FW update access, any concerns?

Not bad .. Its seems to not be to chatty
But I did turn off description Text logging and debug logging

I just used [Basic Rules] For all three rules for doors and nightlight.

Thanks! I assume you can you control both color and brightness settings?

Can you post what you see for it on the Zigbee Details page in the messages ("Msgs") column?

Remember its also a repeater .. so some of this is for that I would think.
But yes you can change color and brightness from basic rules if you want.

That's not an issue...cool.

And thanks for confirming brightness.

I've got 7 of the Matter versions of the nightlight and am a huge fan of it. Based on my logging, this version does report every Lux change. It wouldn't surprise me if the Zigbee version did to. I'm not sure how much "chattiness" that would cause on the Zigbee mesh, but my internal LAN is handling it fine as I'm seeing no effects to them.

As @WarlockWeary should, color and level can be controlled. It does not have the greatest of colors but it generally works fine for notifications and some basic color schemes (mine go red or white when the Christmas decorations turn on to give them a candy cane type feel).

For the Matter version, you first need to install the 3R app if you want firmware updates. The 3R uses the Matter code on the nightlight to connect to it initially and can generate matter pairing codes too. My nightlights are only in the 3R app and Hubitat. Firmware updates is handling by the 3R app. They used to come fast and furious, but have settled in the last few months as the firmware generally works fine.

The one minor negative to the Matter version is that it can be a little slow with motion detection. It's gotten a lot better with firmware updates. For my home needs, the device works great.

Thanks for all the details, very helpful!

I'm only going to be using these for door open notifications via the colored light (one in entry, and one in family room), so motion sensing is not an need/issue for me w/this device. In fact, I may cover up the motion/lux sensors entirely. That should shut it the heck up...

I use the Z-Wave equivalent (Homeseer HSM200) and they are great. I just bought the Third Reality because I needed a Zigbee repeater. Will be setting it up this weekend.

I'm only going to be using these for door open notifications via the colored light (one in entry, and one in family room), so motion sensing is not an need/issue for me w/this device.

Yeeap .. that's precisely why I got it

These will work just fine for that use case. The only time I use them for motion is at night when they go from 25% to 100% with motion active and turn on some overhead Hue lights to 10%. With littlish kids (7 and 5) upstairs and owners on main, the 25% is probably bright enough for them. Just a little extra caution and the 100% plenty bright at night. The Lux values and notifications via colored lights is something I definitely use.

What is the triggered time on the night lite itself? is it controllable or something more like 1 minute ... also interested in the info about motion active length if anyone wants to share experience. thx

well, you have to do a rule to make it do that ..
so you could change it to what ever you want.. 1ms to 10min lol
here is my rule using [Basic Rules] for nightlight mode.

The Matter version is 30 seconds of inaction before registering and cannot be changed through Hubitat nor the 3R app.

Mine is still chatty.

It is always bouncing between lux levels for no apparent reason. It doesn't matter if the light is bright or dim. I haven't tried a firmware update in a while. Originally it didn't work and I don't know if that was eventually fixed.

Because it is so chatty I haven't bought any more. Currently I only use it as a notification light. It didn't work as intended for my motion needs. Not because of a problem with the device, rather it was due to the way all PIR motion sensors work. I ended up solving my motion requirements with a custom app.

Overall it is a solid device. It is actually routing most of my battery devices - even ones on the other side of the house that have closer repeaters. Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe I should get one more for my other Zigbee mesh?

One thing to keep in mind is that if you turn off the nightlight function it will turn back on after 12 hours of no commands. In my case I use the light for notifications in the morning and at night it will start working as a nightlight again. Kind of annoying for my use but not so much that I've considered getting rid of it.

Thanks, I thought I read somewhere that if you use the pinhole on the device that will toggle the night light function on/off, and that toggle sticks.

Is that not true?

I'm thinking once I cover the sensor w/black electrical tape, that bouncing should reduce even if it won't eliminate.

If they stay chatty and cause any issues, I can always put them on my extra C8 test hub and Hub Mesh them to my other hubs. They would generally be the only devices on the C8 test hub so they can spam all they want...

Found it - so you're saying that the process below to turn off the local routine only lasts for 12 hours, and then the local routine will start up again?
