Really bad Z-Wave performance, even with LR

Now, I'm no expert, but I'd guess that those device that don't say LR, and say Mesh instead, are not paired LR.

It has been several times. The c8 and c8 pro are most susceptible. Check the POE adapter thread too

There have been many topics about problems with Z-Wave on the C8, they were traced back to using POE devices and also just non-standard USB bricks.

It has been quiet about that more recently so I can see how you might not have run into those topics.

Speaking of which: is the wall outlet itself gripping the wall wart firmly or is it a loose fit? A sloppy plug even at that low a current draw can be an issue.

You still have a bunch of mesh devices. It just takes one...

I am not sure what you mean.

The LR devices shouldn't be affected by the bad mesh, right?

In Jeff's app, you seem to have LR capable devices paired as Mesh.

That's a good question!

I would think that if the mesh was acting up it would affect the hub, which would affect everything. But, I don't know.

I'm mostly all LR now at this point. All I'd need is a known/bad device to experiment with, lol.

I wonder if there is a way to diagnose it? Or only by elimination?

Those are devices previously paired as Mesh. I excluded them, paired them again via SmartStart, and for some reason they paired as Mesh again.

Maybe factory reset after exclusion?
Delete the Smart Start entry as well (probably first, before exclusion), and start over with the QR scan?

Unless you disable/delete/modify the SS entry, it will re-pair per its (existing) entry settings.

And that's another good question!

They weren't SS previously.

The boot mode is set to SS LR :man_shrugging:

If you haven't seen this topic yet, it's worth a read to get a background on the types of issues with power supply that can affect the C8.

The TL;DR:

So I was tagged in here twice but there is a lot going on. Did changing the power source help? What else is needed?

I'll chime in.

  1. Is there a procedure, somewhere, to track down misbehaving Z-Wave devices?

  2. If some, but not all, Z-wave devices are replaced with LR devices, will those devices be affected by the mesh locking up due to a misbehaving Z-wave device?

If the radio is locked up, then all devices will be impacted; regardless of how they communicate with the radio.

That's what I thought.

So, assuming the OP's issue isn't power supply, it's 'looking for a needle in a haystack' time, to try and find the misbehaving device.

edit: Then again, maybe it IS the power supply, and all's well that ends well.

Would help if they had a Zniffer.
