[RE-RELEASE] EcoWitt and Wittboy Weather Stations And Sensors (Local)

So am I the only one leery about giving an unknown Chinese device access to the internal network? Are some of you firewalling so that that gateway can only talk to the Hubitat and Internet? Or can it be firewalled to only talk to the Hubitat and no other devices?

Mine is on my lot VLAN along with my other home automation gear.

My IP cameras also have their own VLAN.

The gateway needs some internet access to fetch firmware updates. But the connection with Hubitat is local. So you could keep it pretty firewalled off most of the time.

I have my firewall configured so that only my Hubitat hubs have access to my normal network, and everything in the IoT VLAN has internet access.

But the ecowitt.net has the best dashboards and graphs. I have a firewall with publc ips .. there have been no incoming conection attempts ... only the outgoung data reporting or firmware requests that i initiated.

Same, it’s all been kosher according to my active Synology threat management system.

This. Given that a huge percentage of electronics these days come from China, I'm not sure how to avoid giving Chinese -made electronics access to home automation systems. So, I put 'em all on their own network, firewall 'em away from the regular computers in the house, and hope I've done that properly.

No errors since I turned off the Git Repo.

Just out of curiosity...
I seen this WFC01 Wittflow Smart Water Timer on their site. Would love to get one but don't know if this can be controlled though Hubitat via this driver?

It can"t at the moment. It would need some investigating to see what would be involved.

Also note that I believe only certain gateway devices support these, so check if yours does before purchasing one.

OK thanks. Also, their site says the GW2000 can handle 16 of these if I understand it correctly.

Yeah I believe the 2K and the latest matchbox-style GW's can handle them, I think it's the GW1200.

@sburke781 Thanks again for releasing this driver and incorporating my request to forward the data to another destination. Everything has been working great and with new dashboard coming soon I see a lot of opportunities to build some fun stuff.

A bit off topic, but does anyone have a suggestion for how to set up a notification based on ecowitt? Specifically, I'm looking to set up notifications for wind speed (and ideally direction or a range of heading the wind is coming from). I would also like one for if it has started raining or not.
I would like to be notified if the wind exceeds say 10 mph from between the SE to the W and/or rain is detected to prompt us to pull the cushions in or cover the exposed patio furniture. I have a WS90 as well as a WH40 rain gauge. I would want to have rain from either prompt the notification.

The windDirection attribute is an integer, i.e. the number of degrees between 0 - 360 ..... You could likely use this in part in any rule...

That is what I thought, just used the cardinal directions to simplify it. Do you think it would be possible to use a range? For instance, wind from between say 135 - 285? That is pretty much the open exposure of the porch.

I would think a range is possible.... What range is appropriate... I'll leave that up to you...m

I have actually run out of WN31 slots and need to expand. One gateway will be for "places" (rooms) and the other will be for "things" (fridges, aquarium, etc.).

To add a second GW1100 gateway, I just need to make a new virtual device in the Hubitat, pick this driver again, and plug in the new MAC... Plus the IP/port setup in the gateway. Right?

The Ecowitt dashboard is actually pretty good, but it does NOT let you combine devices from different hubs on your account... You always need to do some clicking to see different sensor sets. So, unifying everything under the Hubitat and using Hubitat dashboards will save the day here.

You can have up to 8 more of the wn34 variety on the same system as all the wn31s.. temp only no humidity

There are a couple of places where I don't care about humidity, but I want that too in most places. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―
