If my Jasco switches and dimmers weren't already perfect I'd consider jumping ship, but heck, they are/have been perfect! (Admittedly after replacing several of the oldest ones under warranty that had died from that capacitor issue...)
WoW,
All the issues with Z-wave vs. Zigbee and the fact that power loss to hub causing database corruption has me wondering did I make the right decision with C8 pro????
A hub should not be so sensitive to a loss of power whether done intentionally to shut off or because a power failure this fact has me concerned.
It will be on my homes battery backup, but still would be nice that it could be reset by power cycle, which seems an issue for Hubitat C8 pro?
Currently I send a SMS command to my cellular router to facilitate power resets for devices, which has worked well for remote rebooting of cell router, security cams, even the X-10 WiFi based controller.
Seems like maybe I might have yet made another questionable choice...LoL
Database corruption is not likely, but just power cycling a port is not the best way of doing it.
You can reboot the hub from an endpoint:
Z-Wave and Zigbee issues are all individual experience. Most people don't have issues, but some do. Some of the issues are due to the radio chipset software, which one would experience on other platforms too. Almost all the issues are fixable and people on this message board will help.
Same here. My Jasco (and Zooz) Z-Wave just work.
As I'm sure you know, most of the people in support forums are there because they have one (or two) of the problems below:
- They are having issues w/their stuff and want help
- They don't have a life and spend a lot of their time bragging about their setups, talking about new things to add to their setups, and helping others
As noted most people have basically smooth sailing w/some occasional manageable issues - pretty much like any other tech/HA system. So don't let our ranting worry you too much. Mostly sound and fury, signifying nothing. ![]()
Agree! But also appreciate the each user has their own experiences. Zwave has been rock solid for me while zigbee has been flaky as hell. Soon i will have replaced the last two Zigbee motion sensors with Zwave an$ last three zigbee 3.0 bulbs with matter.
Yes, but its been a quite a long time. Zwave LR is a game changer.
Yes, but again, it's been years.
Yes, again, many years, but I don't recall it being much different than Zigbee.
Nope. That is one i’ve never had to deal with, but I appreciate that your own experiences have shaped your opinions, just as mine have my own.
Also, it seems that since matter has finally come along, manufacturers are shifting their attention towards matter and certsin zigbee devices are be oming harder to find. I suspect that with be happening more in the future.
Can’t say that i disagree, but this really applies to any protocol. Zwave L R makes a big difference. If i was starting new today i would just go that route to begin with and probably shy away from traditional zwave whenever possible. Even now, I’m favoring LR devices when adding new devices.
They mostly all do this because they are basically computers. ST, HA, and Homey have the same issue.
Right because they're mostly embedded/static and aren't constantly read/writing to the internal memdrive system.
ditto. Plus I like the lighted toggle.
After all but one of my Hue motions went off line for no reason, again, I replaced them all with Z-wave LR ZSE18's. I replaced an Xfinity with a z-wave contact sensor, even though it didn't crap out like the Hues. The only zigbee device I still have is the Sinope propane tank monitor, which also hung in.
Just an anecdotal issue here, but I noticed over the last several days that a lot of my z-wave routines we're laggy AF... (I blame @danabw because why not
) Nothing at all in the logs, nothing in the engineering logs even with extended z-wave logging turned on internally. Had repeated fails on individual repairs. Very frustrating of course. So noticed that my topology was a mess. Decided to work backwards on my mains based stuff. Started with the beaming repeaters. Third time is the charm. When I removed the 3rd repeater, everything came back on line. Not sure why it crapped at that point. I'll factory reset it and add it back in and see how it behaves again. Just pointing out, be it z-wave, or zigbee it only takes one faulty device to tank WAF or your own sanity.
Thanks. That really made me laugh!
Since everything that goes wrong at home is already all my fault, might as well pile on...

Truthiness...though I do think that ZWLR has the possibility to be a game-changer in this area, buy removing the mesh aspect, one failure = one failure. ![]()
Sadly though things like my Iblinds V3 won't be any time soon and at current cost couldn't replace them easily...
Bummer...
Mine (iBlinds) are finally perfect on C8-Pro (and were on C8 as well). I would not have to even think about replacing them at this point. (I'm using a replacement Z-Wave antenna on the C8-Pro which I've posted in the past.)
Still waiting on C8 pro.....
Does the C8 pro allow for secondary WiFi?
Basically a backup WiFi if Primary fails?
No... In fact I've never seen that in any iot device. I also do not recommend multihomeing it (having it on both lan and wifi at the same time). Where did you order your c8 from. Usually it's to you in one or two days.
Fun fact, I installed 3 more last week, to finish the 1st floor (we have 14 windows on the 1st floor) and one of them was closing Up instead of down.... I was going through the settings wondering what the hell was up.... Finally occurred to me I installed that one motor backwards...lol
Disappointed, I thought you were perfect, like me. ![]()
Luckily we have this setting...covers up our shared imperfections. ![]()
