I feel like you should go big. How about a projector from across the room lights up the whole wall?
I used to use a mini pocket projector aimed at the ceiling for clock and weather.

yep be a man ... just tell the wife go big or go home... (make sure the couch is available)
You guys are hilarious...and thank goodness she never reads this forum. ![]()
Lol. I'm seeing a lot of "we" where i'd bet it really should be "she"!
This thread has gotten me to follow the well trodden path, and I too have ordered a bunch of the USB LEDs, and am thinking of creating a modern version of a butler's / Servants bell board.
I found some usb c versions of the leds, some that are shaped like nixie tubes, and well, lets just say my Aliexpress and Amazon orders runneth over....
Going to be fun, or a disaster! Or likely both!

Oh my...I'm going to need linkies on these! Please?
Just search for "usb led" on Amazon ![]()
I just feel a little pervy searching for something called "nixie tubes." ![]()

Those are so cool...
This is what you need. Only 4 left in stock!

Woah...
Why the attachment to the old Jasco switches?
You'll be running out of outlet slots shortly.
Too bad something like this isn't smart. If you could turn off/on each port individually it would be perfect for those LEDs, comes in lots of colors, and is very slim.
Absolutely! That would very cool. The three port Tuya switch does allow that, but more ports/lights is always better. ![]()
You could use a Shelly or similar rgb controller.
Tested the LED lights last night in the spot where they would go. OMG they are so bright...impressive & a little scary. ![]()
If I do use them on the picture wall for the door/window notifications, lowering their brightness will absolutely be required. ![]()
Shelly plug arrives today, looking forward to seeing what I can do with that.
I may buy a set of these to see if I can reduce the voltage and thus the brightness. If I can, then I might use something similar with a fixed setting to set the brightness.
Sounds like a potential community project...maybe you'll end up retiring early due to record-breaking sales. ![]()
Still waiting on Amazon for the glowing Shelly plug to arrive. Might be one of those late evening deliveries, unfortunately.
I'm only caring about light control in this use case, so after I join the plug via Matter I'll poke around and see if I can get to the color settings. I already know that Zigbee won't be a useful path for LED control from @kkossev's info, so looks like my options are Matter over Wi-Fi, & the HE built-in Shelly Wi-Fi Controller Integration, and maybe one of these drivers..
Am I missing anything?
Not looking good to use the Shelly plug for notifications so far...even in the Shelly app there are only two options, power on color and power off color. Not seeing any way to choose/set other options there.
Added the switch to my hub via Matter and via the HE built-in Shelly integration and not finding any way to change the LED colors regardless of which driver I use, switch, outlet, RBG light, CT light, etc.
Unless I'm missing something (happens!) this may go back if I don't have a general use for it as a plug.
I could just turn the switch on and off (since not using it to power anything) and use the power on/power off LED color settings for two types of status (doors all closed, something open) but would lose the "nearby door open" status that's also useful in the picture wall location. Depends on how the USB LEDs in the Tuya switch end up looking... ![]()
Shelly plug gen 4 fingerprint in case anyone cares... ![]()
fingerprint endpointId:"01", inClusters:"0003,0004,0006,001D,0090,0091,009C", outClusters:"", model:"Shelly Plug US Gen4", manufacturer:"Shelly", controllerType:"MAT"
The outlet does look pretty cool...I've set it up to go blue (turn on) when things are closed up, and turn magenta (turn off) when something's open. The quality of the color is much nicer in person...
Testing it in a wall outlet that my wife has a small open-backed bookcase in front of.
Closed up tight:

Something's open:
