JunoConnect wafer downlights not working properly

I was able to connect 6 Juno Connect Zigbee downlights to my HE C-7 and they were automatically assigned to use the Advanced Zigbee CT Bulb driver. These lights work smoothly and consistently when controlled one-at-a-time through the devices page, but not when trying to control multiple lights together.

When trying to control several at once, some of the lights blink when they are turning on and then some are dropped from the network and I have to re-pair. There are 2 lights that are dropped more frequently, but others are sometimes dropped as well. This happens when I control all lights as a Group/Group Bulb Dimmer 2.1 App or by Button Controller (tried Button Controller to set the dimmer for the Group or 6x individual devices and the same thing happens in both scenarios). I do not see any bulb blinking or network dropping when I control each light individually. Anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I could probably connect these lights via SmartThings, but I'd prefer to keep everything local if I can. Thanks!

I have the same issue. two of my bulbs seemingly drop connection if addressing more than one at a time. I am getting some errors in the debug log. something along the lines of java.lang.ArithmeticException: Division by zero on line 650 (method on) just trying to turn the device on. I have also noticed the device will not change color temp evenly as a group of 6 lights. my phone will randomly tell me there is a light to pair to so kind of confused how an already paired to my hubitat can now want another pair connection somehow.

@mike.maxwell is that something you can help with?

These lights have not been specifically tested. Please try the generic zigbee driver rather than the generic

I'm having the same issues with these Juno connect lights. It's sad because they're one of the only slim canless zigbee lights I'm able to find with some regularity. They act nice for a bit but randomly drop off the network. Sometimes they reconnect on their own, sometimes you have to power cycle them, and rarely they have to be re-paired completely. I've tried the generic ct driver as well as the advance ct driver; same issues.

Looks like this series of lights is zigbee but also bluetooth Smart Home System | Juno Connect | Juno Lighting. It was specifically developed for smartthings. Any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure there are others who share the frustrations.

I see @csteele has had some experience with these lights. Similar issues? any ideas?

Thanks!

Being designed for "Smart Things" doesn't mean much. As long as they follow the zigbee standard they can be used on Hubitat. Do you know if they're zigbee 1.2 (ZLL) or 3.0? If 1.2 you don't want them on the same mesh as other zigbee stuff (ZHA) as they will cause lots of issues with the mesh (similar to what you are going through) 1.2 zigbee should be on their own mesh either using a hue bridge or another hubitat. If zigbee 3.0 then I'm not sure.

I found this which seems to indicate they are Zigbee 3.0, Juno Connect Adjustable wafer 6in - CSA-IOT , not sure if thats a reliable source though.

Do you have other zigbee devices in the immediate vicinity and how far from the hub are they? Do you have other zigbee devices that all work fine? Similar distance from the hub?

Also what is your Wifi like, how many 2.4ghz nodes? Are you in a congested area like a condo building? Did you check your Wifi channel compared to Zigbee channel to make sure they are not overlapping?

They are ZigBee 3 supposedly. I have 50 or so ZigBee devices, some in the same room, some farther. All work fine. Have experimented with changing channels to no avail. I've also put these devices on home assistant and they seem to work better there.

Have you tried just the generic zigbee switch driver? Since the CT driver is throwing errors maybe it is sending commands to the device it is not expecting causing it to lock up or something? Just a stab in the dark. Would be worth just testing it out with the super basic driver for a little bit to see if it helps.

Also, you really should look at the 2.4Ghz wifi channel you have set (or selected by the router) and be sure they do not overlap. Here are some info on it: ZigBee and Wi-Fi Coexistence | MetaGeek

Lastly, if you have any android devices, I would download a Wifi scanner app (there are many). Use it to check how saturated the 2.4Ghz is around you. Also your router may have a site map / scanner built in, my Asus does and it gives better info than the free Android apps.

Other than that, might try to reach out to the MFG, as it sounds like it might be a device specific issue. Possibly weak antennas?

I got the one, tried it for an hour or so, thought it was fine, and then never discovered a place in the house I wanted it. I'm not a big fan of "smart bulbs" because of the inadvertent power switch issue.

So it's still here in it's box... waiting for me to cut another hole somewhere and wire in power.

I'll try using the switch driver, see if that gives a more reliable connection. I have optimized the wifi and zigbee channels in the past. I'll double check that too. They are very reliable on zigbee with the sonoff zigbee 3.0 dongle and a Pi 3 running home assistant which leads me to believe the issue is with device support through hubitat but I guess it could be because there are much fewer devices on my experimental Home assistant setup. Hubitat is just so much more user friendly than home assistant. I'm hoping I can find a reliable setup here.

For giggles you might wanna just set hubitat's zigbee on 20. Another option is the hue bridge so you wouldn't have to deal with HA on that. Just an idea.

For fun, I pulled the wafer from it's box and factory reset/paired it again.

This time, the hub correctly selected the Advanced Zigbee CT Bulb driver and as you can see, I was able to control it.

Your post indicates two problems, falling off the mesh, which I can't comment on, since this wafer has been added only in the past few minutes... no opportunity to fall off. But also a question about which driver, which I do think I've answered.

Would you mind posting the firmware version info of your particular light?

I have 2 of these, a 6 inch and a 4 inch. The 6 inch falls off more often than the 4 but they both require frequent reconnects. I did setup the 6 inch one as a generic switch though and it hasn't disconnected in about 48 hours. I wonder if it's a light hardware issue.

Just kind of wanted to put this out there as I knew others have had some issues with these lights. @jco , @neonturbo , any resolution of your issues?

I don't have these, nor do I have a problem with them. I was just summoning support for user2284.

That being said, any zigbee that falls off the network probably means you need more repeaters or your hub has interference from Wifi.

  • What channel is your hub on?
  • What channel is your Wifi on?
  • Is the hub located very close to your Wifi router?
  • Is the hub possibly being blocked by metal or thick walls (brick, plaster) where the signal might be getting attenuated or maybe in a bad place like in a basement?

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm fairly certain this isn't a channel or repeater problem. I have 50-60 ZigBee devices and these are the only 2 that would drop off daily and become unresponsive. Sometimes later I can use them again without resetting them, sometimes they require a power cycle, sometimes a complete re-pairing. Now that I've configured one as a generic switch and it hasn't dropped off it seems as though it is either a software or light hardware issue. I will keep an eye on it over the weekend before switching back to the Advanced ZigBee ct driver.

Thanks for the help!

Still what channel are your zigbee devices on. Also do you have a lot of power reporting going on?

ZigBee channel 20, no power reporting. Maybe a wall switch or 2 but nothing significant.
