OK, this is great. I can show my wife this post now to show her it's a sickness and not my fault.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Might want to consider automating all things in the dog house before telling her that line.

Hello my name is NoWon
and I am an addict

Of course your an addict. I can tell because you have way more than me. Once I get to seven hubs (already starting a collection) you'll be just another regular user!

It's not a true addiction, until it spills over and ruins other parts of your life. Like you loose interest in eating or sex and only want to play with your hubitat.
Until then, your an "enthusiast" or if it's part of your worklife, then your a "workaholic"

My wife says I'm like a little kid with a toy, oh and "stop fu**ing with the lights"
She can't get used to 3 different light switch changes in a week

Then I must be an enthusiast and a workaholic!
Or is it an obsession?

Did you import all of those?

Or have some other method of getting them without getting stung with all the fees?

I've been meaning to get a second hub for a cold spare ....... at $80 in the US that's a no-brainer .... but over here the landed cost ends up being > £130 so it's a pretty steep outlay just for something that sits in the box in case of emergency.

Yep!
I imported them all

If you think yours was expensive, my first C3 hub cost me just about £200!
It was before they were sold in the UK.
I had to get someone to buy it for me in the US then ship it to me via courier.
And, I couldn’t use z-wave for a few months as there was no UK usb stick
(Or the ability to use any other type at the beginning)

What's the use case for multiple hubs? I don't get why you have so many?

Just trying to understand...

Two of them are developement hubs, which keep test code away from my ‘production’ hubs that run the house. (Cobra Lab & Smartport Lab)

I have separate hubs for zigbee and z-wave
I have a separate hub which has my heavy apps for speaking and sonos, echo plus, and the chromecast beta apps - these have been known to pull a hub down and this would affect other operations (Media)
I have a separate hub running ‘hubConnect’ which allows sharing of devices between all of the other hubs (Messenger)
The last production hub is to house all my custom apps etc and brings everything together (Controller)

Or is it an obsession?

In your case it's definitely an addiction. If it was an obsession you would have all the IP addresses in sequential order.

Sounded like all of you guys on this post are addicts. It's a good thing I am not like you crazy people :zipper_mouth_face:

This one maybe hopeless, he's still in denial!
(old saying" he who dies with the most toys wins!")

@Cobra as the owner of many HE hardware versions, how does it work going from a C4 with separate external Z-Wave and ZigBee dongles to a C5 in terms of a complete hub failure?

If it were C4 -> C4 the presume it's just a case of moving the dongles and restoring a backup. But from looking at the specs of the C5 it will only support one external dongle (with a Y-cable for power)?

The only C5 hubs I have are two UK prototypes which are not on that list.
My hubs are C3 & C4 so I have never migrated from 4-5

You are correct C3 or C4 -> C4 is just a case of restoring a backup and moving the dongles.
(Which I have done a couple of times without problems)

I’m not sure that C4 -> C5 is possible without reconnecting all the zigbee devices.
Moving the stick would just move the z-wave as I don’t think the internal zigbee would be disabled when a zigbee stick is connected (as the internal z-wave is)

Personally, I would buy a ‘spare’ C4 (which I believe may still be available) to keep as a backup

@bobbyD can probably advise.

Yeah I've asked if C4 are still available, had my first hub lockup overnight so would like to be prepared for the worst.

A hub lockup doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with the hardware.
It’s MUCH more likely to be software related

Oh yeah for sure, but I'd like to be prepared IF at some point the hardware needs replacing as the wait for shipping / import from the US for a replacement could be some time.

In most cases I have cold spares of all my other hubs (unless they are readily available in the UK). So makes sense to get one sorted for HE too ..... just the expense of it was a bit off-putting.

In terms of this particular hub lockup though, all my HA is modular with hubs just used as radio gateways .... so my HE only runs Maker API App and mostly built in drivers (apart from a couple of self-written simple ZigBee ones), all logging turned off, so it's pretty lightly loaded. This is the only lockup I've had since I got HE (just over a year ago) and a reboot brought it back to life, so I don't think there's anything particularly amiss that needs investigating.

LOL, funny you say that. I actually told her that I setup the entire house for less than the cost of one of her Louis Vuitton's. Of course I've exceeded that now but I'll start in on her shoes if it comes up again.
