InfluxDB Issue

With the help of support I've come to realize that while the influxdb app works, writing data to the db, the error generated is causing the hub to crash.

Here is a snippet of the log there is 49 pages of this over 8min. Any help tracking this down would be appreciated.

You could use some additional logging.. at line 638 where you have this:

      } catch (e) {
          logger("postToInfluxDB(): Something went wrong when posting: ${e}","error")
      }

change it to this:

      } catch (groovyx.net.http.HttpResponseException hre) {
          logger("postToInfluxDB(): Error:${hre.getResponse()?.getData()}", "error")
      } catch (Exception e) {
          logger("postToInfluxDB(): Something went wrong when posting: ${e}","error")
      }

That should give you a better idea of what the error message is from the influxdb server.

Friend has been talking about InfluxDB. I too would like a way to locally store and retrieve trend data.

I would love to move to a different system, as influxDB / Grafana really don't like to perform Monthly queries (e.g., I'd like to see how many kWh my various appliances used last month...), without hacking around, and still hasn't come together like I'd want. I have too much in influxdb right now, though, so I don't have the time or energy to change at the moment :stuck_out_tongue:

But it does work, and my Grafana charts are still quite helpful despite my whining :slight_smile:

After making that change I am getting the error below. Looks like its an issue with the max number of DB entries? Maybe I can increase that or stop logging it.

[app:7772018-09-18 14:11:40.173:errorpostToInfluxDB(): Error:[{"error":"partial write: max-values-per-tag limit exceeded (100000/100000): measurement:\level" tag="hubName" value="com.hubitat.hub.domain.Hub@1a138a46" dropped=1}]](http://192.168.0.50/logs/past#app777)

I don't think it is something you can ignore.

Influxdb docs, max-values-per-tag-100000

What is your setup for influx? Are you also logging Location and Hub Properties? I am not seeing the error you're getting but I don't have the Location and Hub Properties logging ON. Maybe disable it as a test.

I set an environmental variable in my docker instance to set the number of tags to infinity. I am curious if that will work, after its run for a bit i'll check the logs. It's probably true that I don't need the location and hub properties.

The environmental Variable didn't work but turning off location and hub properties did. I also removed all of the devices that I am not currently graphing. I'll let it run overnight and see how things go.

Things are still running ok, no errors in the logs.

I was really happy to see this exists! @potts.mike is the above code what you're still using? Did this end up in a repo somewhere?

Im getting the following error when trying to write to the database. Any help would b e appreciated.

Are you using the code from the Hubitat Community repository?

@ogiewon Yes, I am. It looks like it doesn't support basic auth...

I donโ€™t use authentication on my local InfluxDB server. So I have never tested that feature.

1 Like

Ok so is that just removing basic auth from the conf file?

Sorry, itโ€™s been months since I set up InfluxDB. I havenโ€™t had a need to tweak it at all.

Ok, I'll look into it. at least now I have a direction to start into

@ogiewon Turning off auth in the conf file fixed my issue. Thanks!!
