Hi all, soon to be new HE owner here. I was using Phillips Hue and Smart things but the smart things side has not been used much - can't get over the stupid lag from a button press to it actually doing what it's supposed to.

We're about to replace our air conditioning system to a ducted one. I've been looking at the various controller options out there - MyAir/Airtouch/iZone. Which do you guys think is the better one in terms of integration? I'm leaning towards izone since it at least has smart things integration. Worst case I just leave the smart things hub running.

Thanks

Thanks for the tips @snell and @njandra. I understand from a little bit of reading that in Aus the Samsung SmartPlug ($49) and Tradfi Signal repeater ($20) are what people often use as repeating devices for Zigbee. Are there any other recommendations? I might pick these up while I’m waiting for the hub to arrive (it has only been 12 days so far, but feels like longer).

What do people use for Z-Wave repeating? Also what Z-Wave devices do people have that they highly recommend? Does it make sense to skip adding Z-wave devices and repeaters for the moment? I won’t be rewiring any in-wall switches (I’m a tenant, not homeowner).

Most Z-Wave devices that are mains-powered (plugged in or wired) will act as repeaters. So a lot of the time it is just finding what might be useful to you. Since you do not want to rewire things (good call as a tenant) that leaves any number of plug-in devices. For those, I personally have used indoor and outdoor outlets but I have now built up a pretty good collection of wired switches so I doubt my mesh relies any of the outlets anymore.

I started my system off with Z-Wave, thinking it would be the better option. As time has passed, I've added a whole lot of Zigbee devices, mainly for 2 reasons:

  1. Noticeably faster response times from motion sensors (apparently the newest Z-Wave devices are faster, but I don't know)

  2. Larger selection of devices at affordable prices.

One device type that I still feel is better with Z-Wave (at least in Australia) is the in-wall switches, dimmers, etc. (I like having AU-certified devices that are highly configurable and allow me to keep using my physical switches) Since you won't be installing any of those, you may have no need to go down the Z-Wave route.

ps. I think I think I'd agree with using SmartThings plugs and Tradfri repeaters. I don't have any repeaters, yet, but I have several ST plugs.

Thanks, good to know.

FYI guys.
I just grabbed this offer 10 Ecolink Zigbee Wireless Door/Window Contact Samsung SmartThin | eBay
That 10 pack is pretty good value and the devices do temperature as well as contact. :+1:t3:

Finally got around to doing some of the DETA switches. I made a "thing" too, but it still nearly beat me. I tried all kinds of combinations, used a 3.3v regulated supply, held GPIO0 for a few seconds, the whole time, everything I could think of. Eventually I changed my USB cable to the serial board, powered the tyw3es using the 3.3v output and somehow it worked! Maybe the other cable didn't supply enough current? Then I tried another switch and it still took me about 20 tries to get it working. I really wish OTA worked :frowning: but at least I've got some tasmota switches happening now. Thanks for the tips.

Do these do vibration sensor as well or are they just contact/temp sensors?

Just Contact and Temp as I read it, as I’ve not received them yet. They’re still in the air.
A couple are going to be PlastiDipped or conformant coated and used outside with one targeted for inside my pool skimmer box. I’m going to put it into a small plastic sealed bottle just for temp measurements. We’ll see how that works at sending pool water temp back to HE.

So my Iris Keypad V3 has never been reliable, very slow to respond after around 24 hours of rebooting the HUB, I gave up on it because of this as after around 24hrs it wouldn't send the disarm code before the sirens went off. Anyway, after the latest update I thought I'd test again, been flawless for 5 days now so I think I can say there were some performance issues on my C5 that have now been resolved. Gotta say it's great having it respond instantly now. Just got to get the family back into the mindset of using it and having faith it will now work again all the time

My C7 has finally arrived in Melbourne, hopefully it'll arrive in the next couple of days.

Looking for recommendations on zigbee button.

I have two ST buttons and they work like a charm, and I decided I want another two to add to the collection. However it appears no one sell them anymore (possibly discontinued?)

So it appears the only other option is Xiaomi/Aqara, which comes from China (Aliexpress) and will take a few months to arrive. Anyone got recommendations on zigbee button that can be sourced locally in Aus? (Or if anyone willing to part way with two of their ST buttons  )

I ordered some Aqara zigbee items (two Aqara/Opple 6 way switchesd, one Aqara magic cube, two Aqara buttons, a three pack of Aqara Window Door Sensors, and a LCD Screen Smart Home Temperature Humidity Sensor) from Banggood on the 14th August and they arrived yesterday. So less than two weeks. I was surprised at a package arriving so quickly.
Maybe it was just luck.

Wow that is extremely quick. I am seeing months while waiting for Aliexpress packages.

I've got stuff that I ordered in May (NodeMCU, and extra pogo pins) that still haven't arrived. So I guess I'm not the only one. I was wondering if people are actually receiving their stuff from Aliexpress.

Yeah it does eventually arrive albeit 2-3 months later. I even had a TV box I ordered from the UK arrive this week and that took almost 4 weeks so mail has slowed a lot.

I’ve had a delivery from Banggood and another from AliExpress, each arrived within the last 2 weeks that have only taken 2-3 weeks to arrive !
Dunno what’s going on with your slow shipments.
That said I’m into week 3 for a shipment coming from “a country called Trump” and the tracking shows 13 days just sitting in Kentucky !
Go figure.

It's pretty much all over the shop, but I suppose we are in a pandemic so these things are going to happen. As long as it arrives eventually I don't mind.
