Hubitat for AUS/NZ Chat

Wow I just discovered that Jason Church was suspended as well! I didn't think he was connected (or was he )

It seems counterproductive to me. If a no name like me got banned it's no great loss, but contributing devs getting banned just serves to generate more interest in what they're up to.

I just found this:

https://oh-lalabs.com/articles/we-are-sad-announce

But Jason isn't mentioned.

Yes, Jason was never mentioned. It was only 3 of them (markus, april and spelcheck).
This is sad :face_with_head_bandage:

I totally agree.

Btw, if there are any WU users here, I took Cobra's driver and fixed some issues with the way it handled some WU data and made some enhancements. :sunglasses:

Cool. BTW if you are interested would you mind having a look at this GitHub - caseyfw/bom-gif: A script for generating a gif of the last hour of BOM rain radar images.. I tried to get it going but failed miserably. I'll probably be asking the dev for some help on this.

It wont be till next week (Im slammed over the next couple of days - just taking a quick post-lunch break). But I must warn you, Im not a dev and really only made the changes because I thought Cobra didnt understand the WU data model - plus I thought switching to "null" images for night was dumb.

The rest was kinda by accident. :joy:

Wow that is a real shame. Seems this could have a large impact on the future of hubitat support.. I hope not, but I'd be lying if I wasn't concerned.

Oh-La LABS Community <-- he is here

Apologies- newb. Can someone point to me to the idiots guide on getting started with hubitat in sydney? House being built, up to installing electric/switches

I watched a few videos on Hubitat to get a feel for it. Then I just played with it until I understood what I was doing.

And I think in the end you've found the right spot in terms of asking others here about their setup, what to buy, how to setup your hub, etc. So post away with any questions or requirements you might have and someone should be able to help you out.

And welcome to the community as well

thank you sburke781 and dJos.
Ok- first decision- light switches must be ordered (heaps- stupid Mcmansion) including a 10 gang (or 5 plus 5). Im looking at

or

thoughts? suggestions? I have neutral wire to wall

Please don’t buy electrical devices from Ali Express, they are rarely certified for use in Australia and frequently use the crappiest parts imaginable. The last thing you need is your house burning down and your insurance company declining to cover you.

Buy your devices from reputable Australian smart home specialists like capital smart homes, smarthome.com.au etc.

It’s just not worth buying 240v wired devices direct from China.

Yes, definitely, have your sparky run Neutral wires to each switch point.
That’ll keep options open as your HA adventure unfolds.
Personally I‘d stay away from WiFi devices.
Zigbee wall switches exist or you can utilise whatever traditional switch mechanism you like with in wall Zwave dimmers / switches. IMHO Momentary switch mechanisms seem to work best with guests and family who are used to “normal” switch plates.
With the loss of Smarthings hardware, finding affordable motion sensors and leak sensors is going to be harder.
There used to be an Ecolink Door / Window contact sensor 10 pack on Fleabay and they’re cracking sensors.
Just keep planning, determine if your goal is AUTOMATION or App/Dashboard control and remember you DON’T want to be having to baby sit your HA every day. Enjoy

Hi- I had considered just zigbee/z-wave inwall switch but cant find anything that will support 5 gangs (or more)...hence the cheap import option...can anyone suggest a solution to 10 gangs (with my sincere thanks)?

If zwave is in your budget, put the Aeotec nano dual switches behind Clipsal iconic momentary switches. And use the nano dimmers for those lights you want to dim.

Go back through this thread for links and pics.

Hi dJOS and all - stupid questions

  1. clipsal momentary are not "smart" or have i found the wrong link?
  2. z-wave might not be in my budget- is there a cheaper sonoff or similar solution- hence the aliexpress option. i figure if i can sort out needing ten gangs in one place (front door) then the rest will fall into place

Correct, the momentary switches are dumb, they only drive the Aeotec nano dimmers or switches that sit in the wall behind them.

Eg

You need to buy Australian approved automation gear for anything hard wired to 240v mains. Most of the Chinese gear is rubbish.

Look at Shelly if you want wifi gear designed to meet EU and AU standards. Id recommend battery powered Zigbee Sonoff gear but personally I would not touch their mains powered gear with a 1000ft pole!
