Ha ha ha love that baby "boo" :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: so so cute!

Some crook on eBay has some for sale at $185.00 - if cost is no concern for you.

And from the looks of it he had 14 for sell. I wonder how much of the new stock got sold to this one person?

Unbridled capitalism for the win! :pensive:

Not saying I agree/disagree with their right to do so but it does annoy me at a visceral level.

The solution is for everyone contemplating such a purchase to resist the urge for as long as possible.

Dito this. Let the crook's eBay stock gather dust. Probably the same type of person who stock piled Antibacterial gels and loo roll!

I got one (and only one) during the short window that they had them back in stock. It is happily working away at my house and not sitting on Ebay. :grinning:

You say crook, I say enterprising individual. They are taking all the risk for loss - if no one wants to pay the price, they won't and they'll end up having to sell them at cost or below and lose money.

If people are willing to pay the price, then good for them for taking initiative.

Be mad at Hubitat, not that person, Hubitat are the ones that ran out of stock.

I agree completely. Hubitat isn't an essential commodity. If the market bears a price of $185, so be it.

And Hubitat then has an example of what the hub is worth and should raise the base price accordingly.

Fair point. Price escalation/gouging on essential services isn't only wrong, it is illegal.

This is was really sticks a thorn in my craw. That someone is selfish enough to do that. NOT just with these hubs, but to try to capitalize on someone else's misfortune. IMO (no H -because it's not humble in this opinion) HE should watch for someone trying to return a number of hubs and deny it.

I wonder if for next time HE could/should consider setting a per person limit on Amazon and other retailers where possible.

For example Samsung does that for their Smart Sensors on Amazon. I believe you can only buy 4 at a time for a specific extended period (I know this as I bought some from Amazon and then had to buy more directly from Samsung to cover all of my windows)

I can tell you that in the last few weeks of hub sales before running out, no individual bought a large quantity of hubs from us. In fact, we limited it to 2 hubs per purchase. What could have happened is that someone purchased hubs on Amazon, although no single party bought more than 2 or 3 in any one purchase, and I don't believe there has every been a large quantity purchase made through Amazon.

Amazon and Hubitat both have 30 day return policies. After 30 days, with some exceptions, returns are not accepted. We would accept returns in accordance with that policy, and so would Amazon.

There is a long history of people offering Hubitat Elevation on eBay for prices well above what it was then being sold for by us or by Amazon. I guess some people find it there, and don't look further. Actually, I don't understand that, because I'd always check at least Amazon for the price of something before I'd buy it on eBay.

It is most likely that demand for a product like Hubitat Elevation has a bell-shaped curve distribution. What works against that is information, information gleaned by seeing the price in more than one place (e.g. Amazon and Hubitat.com).

We have seen no need for this in the past, and no doubt would not object to large purchases through any channel in the future. A typical purchaser of quantities of hubs is more likely to contact us seeking a quantity discount, than to buy on Amazon. Most of the time, our hubs have been priced higher on Amazon than through hubitat.com. That's not to say that someone couldn't buy a dozen hubs betting on a future price increase or supply hiccup, and then taking advantage of their bet. It's hard to characterize that as a wrongful practice.

I wonder if these Ebay hubs actually exist. Maybe they are taking the order, and turning around and ordering from Hubitat in the Ebay purchaser's name.

This "scam" has been fairly prevalent in the past with people receiving things from Amazon when ordered on Walmart for example.

There is basically no risk to the reseller, there isn't any physical product to deal with. If they get caught, just make a new Ebay account and do the same thing over again.
