Garage door contact sensor

Hello fellow members,
I have not searched yet. With Devices constantly changing. One time for this, I accidentally left the Garage doors open overnight.
Can I get recommendations on a ZWave Contact sensor for my Garage doors?

Thankyou in advance

TL

Usually people go with tilt sensors. I like my Ecolinks.

Have a look at Zooz ZSE41.

I use these devices for sensors & controlling my garage doors:

  1. Z-wave Plus Gold Plated Reliability Garage Door Tilt Sensor, White (TILT-ZWAVE2.5-ECO)
  2. Konnected Smart Garage Door Opener blaQ - Works with Chamberlain/Liftmaster Security+ Openers - Local myQ Alternative

Thankyou everyone. I will look at all your suggestions

So it comes down to Ecolink Tilt Sensor vs zooz contact sensor

I'd like to offer a bit of experience here, in case now is the time for you to think about it. I found for me, at least, that one sensor is not a solution. Let me try to explain:
Garage doors are not actually 2 states - open/closed. They really are 3 state. Open, Transitioning, Closed.
A GD can begin to open then stop for whatever reason (human button push, commonly).

I solved it with 2 contact sensors. One for Open, One for closed. When the door is closed, My 'doorclosed' sensor shows closed. When the door is open completely, the 'dooropen' sensor shows closed. When both sensors show open, then I know the door is transitioning or stuck midway.
When you look at some of the GDO apps, you'll see code for 'opening/closing'. the transition state. I use my own app but I reviewed a number of community apps before I realized none did what I liked. Hope that tickles your thought process. (and it's not zigbee/zwave specific)

Yep, I've always done this too using 2 wired (dumb) reed sensors with my Zen17. It's probably overkill, but it does give me peace-of-mind.

The garage-door app I use doesn't show the transitioning states, but that's fine with me -- I just have a RM rule that verifies the desired final state of both sensors is set after ~30" from door actuation. If not, it sends me a corresponding alert.

Here is another ingenious way to add a contact sensor to a garage door.

For my use case, I only care if it is not closed. The single contact sensor covers that. The only Automation I use concerning the garage door is to couple opening it to the Alarm system being set to Standby from a vehicle FOB. Any conditions other than closed block the automation. Open, stopped part way, or moving I treat the same. Not closed.

I just read an updated article where Chamberlain has blocked all APi access. I originally had it setup longtime ago with Smarthings.

It comes down to Ecolink Tilt sensor or Contact sensor.
I was leaning towards the Ecolink tilt sensor latest version

For not too much more than a contact sensor, you can get a RatGDO32 garage door controller.

Includes door position information and fully local control with Hubitat.

I use a pair of Ring V2 contact sensors, (one for each door) and these holders from Amazon. The holders swing freely when the door opens, thusly opening the contract. I have the contact sensors illuminate an RGBW bulb in the colors red for open and green for closed. That way, at a glance, I can see if both doors are closed before going to bed. The wife and daughter have a bad habit of leaving their respective garage door wide open when entering the house and neglect to close them when they finish unloading their cars.

@masachapa34
This is awesome.... Thankyou!!!!
How did you successfully pair the V2 contact sensors?

I also like the 2 sensor solution, but with a slight twist:

In regards to the contact sensor pairing. I'm liking @masachapa34 setup
Ring V2 contact sensor and the plastic hinge attachment that fits that sensor soo perfect looking

I'm not a fan of the metal hinge bracket alternative but not opposed if I have to go that route

My footnote question in the Ring V2 contact sensor ...has it been resolved in regards to the Pairing Woes...I have been reading about in the past?

Last I read successful pairing of those sensors by way of SmartStart. Just wanted any updates from any of you well experienced folks....that can share any insight
