First time Z-Wave LR user having problems

First time using the mobile app, trying to add an LR device. I push the "+" button and I get a highlighted window with a red line through it. and place the QR codes in the windows, Then nothing happens. What do I do next.

The device was probably added to smart start and is waiting for it to be included.
Have you read through this post? It is very helpful.

What a pain, I now get a message from the zooz website, that says the QR code is invalid and I need to download a special driver from their website to make LR work.

Hubitat Documentation here for adding LR devices - go to the "How to add a Z-Wave LR device" sub-section.

Make sure you have the latest version of the Hubitat mobile app - it should have a green app icon.

What device are you trying to add? Not all SmartStart-capable devices are LR-capable devices (many are just S2-capable, but not LR). There should be no need to download a "special driver" to do any of this.

I am trying to add a temp/humidity sensor, zooz ZSE44 800LR. hubitat reports the QR code is invalid. And display a link to go to the zoos website and download a driver for it,

"While the ZSE44 Sensor will pair with your hub without additional setup, we recommend using this custom driver with this model. I cannot pair at all because the app report the QR code is invalid. So I have no QR code that works.

Are you scanning a QR code on the box or scanning the QR code that's on a small sticker located somewhere on the device itself?

The former is likely just a marketing QR code for a Zooz website; the latter is what you need for SmartStart.

@hydro311 beat me to the reply and what I was thinking as well.

Looking at the site it recommends using the custom driver with a link to it but it should still be able to include it without using the driver.

Because, as others said, you scanned the documentation QR code. It likely says right above it to scan for instructions, etc...

You need the one that says it is Zwave DSK

Also the custom driver they recommend was written by me. The built in driver will offer basic support, my drivers typically have full support for every feature on the device.

Also, do you want it to pair as LR? You have the choice to do it mesh or LR. It defaults to LR if you follow the instructions referred by others but there is extra step if you want to pair as mesh.

If you go mesh you should be able to also pair the old fashioned way without smart start.

Depends your preference on mesh vs LR.

I am not a fan of smart start but it is the only way to pair LR capable devices in LR mode.

Yes I finally figure out how to pair for LR. There were 4 QR codes on the package and one of them worked. Such a pain, I wish there was a way to do LR pairing from the hubitat itself, similar to mesh paring. In my case I have never used the phone app before, so i had 2 learning curved to accomplish this.

For whatever it's worth, scanning the QR code for LR is not just a Hubitat thing, it's z-wave thing in general.

I believe there's a way to do it without scanning, but from what little I've heard, it sounds very tedious and futzy.

Jeff (jtp10181 from his post above) created a super handy SmartStart app for Hubitat that makes managing SmartStart pairings (LR or otherwise) easier -- this app isn't necessary to use, but it's a very nice convenience -- if interested, you can check it out here:

This app sound good. I install it in package manage and it doesn't show up in apps. what am I doing wrong

HPM installs the app code but there is a second step to load the app. Go into Apps, press install user app, find the new app install it. That should do it.

I'm not home right now, so I'm not in a good position to explain more with screenshots, step-by-step etc, but hopefully another user can jump in here...

What release version of Hubitat are you on right now? A recent update split "Apps" into more discrete categories (Apps, Integrations, Automations).

edit - CuriousB got it as I was typing - thank you!

On the Apps tab click on Add User App:

26-05-05-5865

Then type "Smart" in the Search field to narrow down the list and click on SmartStart Manager to install the app. Then the app will appear in your app list on the Apps tab:

This process is two step, because as noted, Hubitat Package Manager adds the code to your hub, but then you have to install the app using the Add App option.
