Change light level value without turning on light

I have a z-wave GE light dimmer that I often use to dim a light for TV viewing at night. My wife uses that dimmer to turn the light on to go upstairs to feed the cat. My issue is I want to reset the light level value to 100 automatically so the next time my wife presses the top paddle the light goes to 100 and not the lower level I last used.

I currently have a rule that takes the light to 100 and then 0 at sunrise, but the light goes hi then off. Its OK, but it would be more elegant if I could have the light value reset "so to speak", without a flashing of the light.
Thanks

Rule machine trigger, if switch turned on, set to100.
Then you can dim to your hearts delight. Next time it is turned on, it should go back to 100. That would be what I would try.

I'm aware of almost zero dimmers with physical controls that support this at the hardware level, which is where it needs to be implemented to do what you want.

You can use in wall micros with button controllers to achieve this however.

Insteon. Too bad it isn't officially integrated.

There's one GE Switch that does this too....the GE Z-wave plus motion dimmer. You can set the default level on that switch, even if you don't use the motion part of the switch as a trigger.

You could also use the Inovelli In-wall dimmer. With their drivers the double-tap is a button event in HE so your wife could just tap up twice and you could have that set up to go to 100%.

FYI, for those that are interested, I just discovered that the Leviton z-wave dimmers allow this function.

Through the use of a custom driver, you can change the parameter on the dimmer that sets the "preset level" which is what the dimmer comes on to when the top paddle is pushed. Here's the custom driver for them that exposes this capability through commands.

For those looking to change the level when the device is physically turned on, this should definitely be considered.
