Zooz zen22 FLASHING LIGHTS

I have some new ZOOZ Zen22 dimmer switches. I bought them a while ago when the Smartest House had a sale. I just had to replace an existing GE Enbrighten Dimmer that went bad. I used one of the Zen22 dimmers. This dimmer switch causes the lights to flash and flicker at any level above 96%. There are only 6 LED flood lights on this switch. They are only 11 watts each, so the switch is well suited for this load.

I explained this to ZOOZ support. It may be that the problem is there is no driver for the ZOOZ Zen22 in the drop down. I am using the generic Z-Wave Dimmer which works okay except for this issue. Is there a stock Zen22 driver available?

Yes, the "Zooz Central Scene Dimmer" driver: List of Compatible Devices | Hubitat Documentation

That being said, I'm not sure that a driver will help a flickering load...seems that would happen without a hub at all and is probably some interaction between the dimmer and your particular load.

The driver is not likely to fix anything.

The built-in drivers should work fine, they were tested with the Zooz devices. However, they don't typically expose all available settings.

They should be using the "Zooz Central Scene Dimmer" type (driver). List of Compatible Devices | Hubitat Documentation

There are community drivers that expose all the available settings.

I was of the same opinion because the lights can be controlled by using the switch itself--- without a hub at all. I'm just running down responses from ZOOZ Support.

I changed the driver to
image
and the flashing/flickering stopped. This flashing/flickering has been 100% repeatable since I installed the switch. Now it's gone.

In the logs, I see this now...

Not sure what the 7 changes are...

They are also asking what firmware this switch is. When I used SmartThings I could tell them. I don't know where to find that in Hubitat...

That is odd that it would change behavior from when it was not using a hub. But as long as it is fixed I guess...

From the device settings, go to the Device Info tab. Then look in the bottom corner under Device Data. I am using a community driver here, but I think the stock driver should expose this as well.

It was not there using generic Driver. It is there using Scene Controller...

I had a dimmer do this before… Found out the wiring was reversed by the “electrician” (hot/neutral)

Interesting... not the problem in this case though. Seems your situation they would have been switching the neutral not the hot. That would cause more problems than a light flicker for other items in that circuit.... Anyway, the original GE dimmer worked for years. Since changing to the driver above, they stopped flickering/blinking/ and sometimes 1 or 2 of the 6 would just go out. For the life of me I have no idea how a driver could do that. It was ZOOZ that suggested that change... :man_shrugging:

@bcopeland ZOOZ sent an email today suggesting a firmware update using your tool. I don't see Z-Wave Firmware Updater in the drop down. Is this not available on a C8-Pro?

Maybe something's changed, but there's a built-in app for that:

Those directions are for an old updater path that's no longer applicable.

The z-wave Device Firmware Updater tool is available to add as a built-in app.

If you're on legacy ZIP and all devices paired mesh, the updater tool should work fine.

I'm on JS, and none of my LR devices show up in this tool, but hopefully that'll be fixed someday.

Thank you... I'll give it a try!

That's true. You have to switch it to mesh, upgrade, then switch back. A drag, when considering that devices have to be switched in apps as well.

In some cases, I've had good luck with just going back to ZIP for updating LR (thankfully, my Z17s worked that way - I was not looking forward to excluding/reincluding those).

In other cases, I had to move the devices back to mesh and back -- on JS, the update would initiate, but then not ever actually progress.

Hopefully @bcopeland can nail down the bug in the updater tool, since I could swear it was working fine on JS for all LR (and mesh) stuff in the early days of JS.

Now that Zooz is starting to open up LR for Europe (and otherwise just putting out quite a few firmware updates lately), it would be great to have the built-in updater fixed for LR.

I've found that moving back and forth to Zip is not trivial.
Easier for the device specific thing, for me at least.

Yeah, for better or worse, I'm stuck on JS now -- a bunch of my devices are now unresponsive & wonky on ZIP if I try to stay there.

Popping back to ZIP for f/w updates (and then going back to JS) has been uneventful so far (knock on wood!), but I can't stay on ZIP as the daily driver.

I suspect that may be because I'm still using 7.22 for z-wave, but I have no idea if that's the reason or not.

OP - apologies for the derail here - hopefully your update goes well!

No problem- Following along. The firmware updated easily - - THANKS TO ALL.

Now the switch is unresponsive (electronically) works physical.... It also created an unknown device.... Long story short, having trouble excluding and including---- There are now 2 "Kitchen Recessed Lights". I know which is which because the old one was using the scene controller and the new one came up using the generic zwave dimmer. Problem is I don't think I can use the new one to exclude the old one. I guess its a force remove and deal with the ghost....

When a ghost is new/fresh, you have better chances of easier removal.

This thread best covers all aspects of ghost removal.

I got it GONE without needing the stick. I think all is good now... :crossed_fingers:
