Zibgee Pairing - Re-Pairing, and why things happen

So here is a problem I haven't experienced before. Years ago I bought some Stelpro Maestros (SPM). At first I was using them with the Maestro controller, then I switched over to Hubitat. I have two SPMs in the house. One in the washroom on he main floor, and one in the garage (the floor below). I had both connected to Hubitat without a problem until recently. The one on the main floor is still connected. The one in the garage lost its connection (for a while now unbeknownst to me). Tried to re-connect through resents both hard and soft to no affect, Tries to re-pair the device and it initially connects (even gets the manufacturer info) and then the device suddenly turns off its radio. I tried with a spare SPM I have lying around and I get the same behaviour. Now we recently renovated the garage, ao there is more drywall etc in the way, but it pairs immediately, so I'm not sure it's a range issue. Anyone have a similar experience?

Here are the logs from the Pairing;

Ok,. this was a range issue. I moved the Hubitat down to the garage and it all worked out. I put a 3rd Reality smart plug in between the two. Hope it helps.

If you continue to have range issues and want to add more reliable repeaters, these two are well loved by members here. Both require a USB wall wart to power them:

Tuya: Tiny but mighty. :slight_smile:

SonOff USB Dongle: Requires more work as you have to follow the info here to flash a new firmware on it, but the range and repeating capabilities of these is great. You can also change the antenna to a larger antenna if desired. They are obviously ugly so you need to find a spot where you don't have to look at them every day. :wink:

@danabw thanks for that info. So far my 3rd Reality Repeater seems to be working. Unfortunately, Amazon.ca is a little less well stocked that it's .com big brother. :frowning:

Love the small form factor on the Tuya. I actually have some USB wall outlets in that area, so they would work great there. I'll look into them if I continue to have range issues in the future.

Cheers,

You can find the Tuya repeaters on Ali Express, for cheaper, just longer shipping times. That's an option many use to get the Tuyas. Tagging another northerner, @Sebastien, for any shopping hints he may have for those in the maple syrup zone. :wink:

Glad things are better now.

I’ve always ordered my Zigbee repeaters from AliExpress. Shipping speeds vary, but it works out well at the end.
