Z-Wave Issues / Stubborn Ghost / Cannot Add Devices C8 2.3.5.121 - Fixed!

Yes...very interested in that as well.

Only problem w/that was that he had a C7 that was working, and which would have had a smaller coverage area than either the C8 or the L-Com antenna, right?

I can't believe we never asked you to do an antenna swap, @SuperDupe. Correct that you didn't try that?

A C-7 with the L-com antenna installed, so coverage on the stock C8 with stock antenna was possibly worse for his application (in a different radial pattern).

True, but I was thinking before he had the mod, the C7 likely worked pretty well, not a disaster like he was having w/the C8.

@jtp10181 @danabw

After I did the antenna mod on my C7, I did get better coverage... I'm not thinking the C8's antenna are defective, but there might be something to say for the shape of the different antenna. I do have two stories, but I also extend outside with devices around the yard and in front as well. But in this case, although I was having some issues with the outside devices, I still find it odd after many many tires, I had trouble pairing devices in nearby rooms or even next to the hub. I only put the bigger antenna on in an attempt to get better coverage outside and didn't do it for my pairing issues... Just happened to try pairing the Z-Stick and it was instantaneously better...

Dana, I hadn't tried swapping the antenna before and was probably the only thing I hadn't tried.

I know nothing about radio waves, but also wondering if I have interference or something else that was just not having it using the stock antenna... Could that be a factor?

Anyway, thank you both and everyone else that jumped in to give me help! :slight_smile:

Thanks for all the details. Glad you are past the bad times. :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

At some point if you ever get a little bit crazy you could try swapping the stock antenna that is still on your hub doing Zigbee duty to replace your LCOM antenna temporarily. The stock antennas are dual Z-Wave\Zigbee antennas so they can serve either signal. Be interesting to see if the problems returned.

But I wouldn't do that. :rofl::slightly_smiling_face:
