I have an earlier version hub and use the beta drivers for cloud integration, but really want to move away from that to local API so I can buy some more of their product that is more sensitive if I loosing internet for security reason.
(I have not yet purchased the new local hub as its $200 and i cant seem to find current intergration for it)
It says you can manage devices with their app.
Do they have a document API or is someone going to have to reverse engineer it?
Or maybe there is already a Home Assistant integration that could be looked at to figure out the API?
Being local is one thing, letting third party apps connect it to is another.
If Yolink wants to integrate with other hubs, and they send one of the community developers some samples devices and a hub I bet it could be figured out. Assuming they are not purposefully locking out third parties from their API in some way.
Just to be clear, I only responded because its interesting and I wanted to prompt you to provide more information for anyone else who might want to develop something. I am tapped out right now on "for fun" projects. I do some paid work on the side as well which is keeping me busy right now.
Anyway... might be worthwhile to see if Yolink is motivated to have a Hubitat integration? They could work with staff directly for a built in integration, or a community developer for a custom integration. The cost may just be shipping some free devices to someone, depending on who is willing. If they are not interested in pushing for it themselves, then you will have to find someone willing to take it on "for fun".
Wonder if they mean Matter bridge or Matter controller (probably the latter because that's almost always what most vendors mean, but their phrasing almost makes it sound like both...). A bridge would make integration easy.
Nice, did not even think about if it was Matter compatible. If it can act as a Matter bridge cant you just pair it to Hubitat and all the child devices should come in assuming there is a driver that would work?
Its the way of the future, no more messing around with custom integrations for every different IP based device.
Nope totally understand. I was glad you asked, also prompt me to look into it some more. If the darn thig was $100 I would have bought it. $200 and still need to have to get developed for integration to habitat. That was my issue. And I am on their discord Developers section but its all about homekit there. and nobody responds to anything but homekit questions, even when they are for like HomeAssist. I will wait and see what happens and maybe come the beginning of next year if nothing has been done and I get my bonus I will bite the bullet and but it at $200 and have AI hemp me through what it can.. Again thanks!
So does a look through their manual. Looks like they are advertising it as a Matter bridge (no guarantees what is actually exposed over Matter, but no reason to suspect it wouldn't be about anything standard):
Me: so it Expose its connected (non matter) devices as Matter devices to HA?
Reply: yolink devices connected to the local hub, You can also connect the hub and all its devices to another matter hub in the home. I tried this with my samsung matter hub earlier
Matter bridge support already exists. There is a built in driver and a community one. Since it is a standardized protocol it should not need to be specific for Yolink.
So if someone already owns a yolink hub, one has to buy a new hub to be able to integrate locally with the yolink sensors that are already using a local protocol?
Yes, as the hub needed more processing power, ram and such. (most was being done in the cloud before) Many of the people in the yolink community is upset about it.
I have been using my yolink temp/humidity sensors with a local hub for about a month. They have been great. I particularly like that the ones I have inside the refrigerator and freezer (big metal boxes) have worked without a hitch.
I haven't integrated them to my hubitat, but I do access them via API (option 1) and MQTT (option 2) inside Node red using the online documentation.
