I've found that it worked great on the C-7 as described in that image; however at some point either on the C-8 or the Z-Wave something changed. For me the new device would appear in PC Controller app, but nothing was in Hubitat Z Wave Details. A reboot of the hub would get me to the point where it was visible there and the Discover button could be clicked. The reboot in the middle made the inclusion even less straight forward.
Mine always just included but almost looked like a ghost ( zooz stick) but worked fine.
so you are saying that my fibaro button got added as S0 because that's all it supports? i cant choose none?
if the Zstick can force button to be security None, then why cant HE do that?
Yeah maybe just me. Even including the Z stick wasn't the same for me. On older Z Wave stack or C-7 (not sure what the cause was), when the stick included it was visible in both Z Wave Details and the Device page. After 'something changed' the stick no longer appeared in Devices and that was when the reboot became necessary after inclusion of each device. I'll try my best to avoid non S2 devices going forward. Though as mentioned I'm limited in choice here.
problem is how to know which devices are S0 before buying them? i wish i never got them....
No if supports S2 you can include it with Hubitat directly as none, S0, S2 Unauthenticated, S2 Authenticated, S2 Access Control. However if your device supports S0 only, it will only include as S0 if included using Hubitat (forced by Silabs). Using the stick and PC Controller allows you to get around that and include an S0 only device without security as you want.
As @rlithgow1 mentions and I did earlier. Hubitat uses the SDK provided by Silabs. They can't alter that.
The Z Wave Alliance page allows you to search a device and lists all its compatibilities, specifications etc. All Z Wave 700 devices will be S2, some Fibaro Z Wave 500 devices are S0 only but some are S2. One easy way to know is that if the device has Smart Start compatibility it is certainly S2 and you can buy that knowing that it can be added without security directly with the Hubitat. (you can see that QR code for smart start on the packaging and device)
yea i will definitely have to avoid these S0 devices. It's very hit and miss trying to remove S0 and very time consuming.
correct
Because the silabs SDK doesn't allow for it.
Yeah it's definitely a learning curve...I had some issues very early on after switching from SmartThings and I got a lot of help here on the forum. I had to exclude about 8 Fibaro Dimmer 2's and re-include them with the Z Stick. Since then I've added a further 15 or 20 devices using that stick to avoid S0. On a positive note, I haven't yet had a Fibaro device fail in the last 4 years or so and maybe 50% of those devices were bought second hand on eBay to save money.
definitely. I had excluded the zstick from hubitat because I didn't want it to mess with my mesh.
So today I decided to give this "remove S0" thing another go. So i tried zstick inclusion into my hub, and it doesn't pick it up now. HE does not find the stick. Tried NWI, Classic Learn Mode, rebooted PC, rebooted HE.
About to pull out my hair lol
shut down the hub from settings, unplug power for 1 min, power back up and try again. (make sure you don't have any ghosts)
already done that 2 times. Also did rebuild database.
how far is the stick from the hub? Try doing it right next to the hub
Done that too. Took it right next to it. Plus when it's about 3-4 meters away.
Got no ghosts.
The software should be named Complex Studio hahah.
Do you see your stick on hubitat?
I'd like to start a Go Fund Me to raise money to buy SilLabs and then rename the SW as you suggest. Or maybe "WTF Studio?!"
And just to note, the reason HE uses the SilLabs SDK (and are subject to its limitations) is to get the Z-Wave certification for their hub. Other products can skirt that if they want/don't care about it. Not the right path for HE, though.
