What is the current best weather app with free API?

When I searched the community, Open Weather was the app du jour. The API doesn't look free anymore.

There is still a free tier available. Just don't exceed 1000 calls/month.

This is pretty much what I did. As for the API, a free one is provided without the need for a payment card. With the free one, I get current weather, 3-hr forecast 5 days and basic weather maps, weather dashboard, air pollution, geocoding, weather widget and 95% uptime.

You mean this one? I thought this was free... at least I haven't been paying for it

Thanks. I got it setup but it won't show the current state weather. It shows "401 Unauthorized" in the logs.

Two things.

1. Sometimes when you get a new API key it takes awhile for it to be recognized.
2. I have been having problems today with OpenWeatherMap returning data, so there might be a temporary issue.

I still use the Weather.gov API with good results.

If you now sign up with OpenWeather they say the onecall V3 API is free up to 1000 calls a day, but you have to add a credit card to be able to use it. If you do you get the message you payer per 1000 calls. Nothing about a free base. When I asked them they did confirm the 1000 per day is free. As long as you have not added payment info you will get the 401 error.

The Current Weather Data and 5 day forecast are available for use without adding payment info. They are still version 2.5 calls. When the onecall was version 2.5 you could get a key for really free.

You can use wunderground which works very well
