I just installed the updated iOS HE app and when I open the Devices tab, most of my devices show "This device is not yet supported by the mobile app." I can use Remote Admin to log into the hub and see the devices there, but I don't understand why the iOS app doesn't show most of my devices on the Devices tab.
It means that whatever capabilities your device exposes are not ones the mobile app currently lets you view or control. The mobile app lets you view the states of and control devices like switches, dimmers, bulbs, locks, thermostats, and more; if you're looking for a device outside of this set, the message is just telling you that the mobile app won't let you do anything with that device (yet).
Creating a dashboard and using the Dashboards tab is one workaround, though more device types will be added with time.
If you're trying to manage a device (rename, edit preferences, see the full range of current states and commands, for example), the regular hub web interface is a better option -- and really the only option for some of that. The mobile app can help you get there but is not necessary and IMHO just gets in the way. But if you're really just looking for a quick way to view a particular device, you'll have to wait until additional types are supported. If it sounds like one of the above that already should be, what device is it (manufacturer/model) and what driver is it using?
Ah, I see. I assumed that the device status and capabilities I see when I'm logged into the hub would also be visible in the app. I'll skip the app and continue using remote access until such time the app offers parity with remote access. Thanks for your reply.
You're probably never going to get "parity" -- the hub admin interface is used for, well, administration; whereas the mobile app is best for quick device viewing or control, notifications, geofence, and other features it offers. Unlike the admin interface -- and unlike some other hubs -- the mobile app is a completely optional part of the Hubitat experience, though one many users find helpful.
So, as I mentioned above, if you're looking to administer a device or look at every attribute, the admin interface is probably going to be the best option now or in the foreseeable future. For the a dashboard-like view of devices, more features are coming soon to the "Devices" tab, which you can already see in the public iOS beta app if you want! The new interface was inspired by Easy Dashboard, so most devices you find that work there will be "supported" here, now, too.
Actually, what I was hoping for by installing the new app is exactly what you mention. I'd like a quick way to adjust the thermostat or tweak a couple of lights. I played with the dashboard builder but could never devote enough time to get comfortable creating intuitive, user-friendly dashboards so I gave up and just went the Remote Access route.
I left ST after 8 years when they abandoned WebCore. I've been using HE for 3 years now and the only thing I miss about ST is their iOS app. The new HE app looked great when I opened it for the first time tonight but I was surprised by how few of my devices were supported. Hopefully the HE team can bring additional device support to the app sooner than later.
I'd be interested in seeing the iOS beta. Can you explain how I might get that?
If you have Android, there's a similar post in the Android category.
That being said, thermostats and light should be supported in the 2.x mobile app already (although I don't think you'll get color control of lights). If you're not seeing that, there could be something missing in whatever driver (or some oddity with the device) you're using.
