Unifi Protect App

I have the Unifi Protect App up and running and per the logs, motion events are being triggered.

I have been unable to get notifications working from the events, but have not spent much time on it yet. Any suggestions on what others have setup?

What else have others used the App for within Habitat?

Very happy to see the native integration, looking forward to Unifi's additional sensors and products and integrating them all together.

What do you mean with this? Can you share what you've tried so far (and what you want to do)? It sounds like you're seeing the events on the camera device in Hubitat just fine and need some help making an automation, such as a notification, based on that? That should work, but keep in mind that the Protect mobile app can do this too and might be a better choice since you can get image previews and a tap will take you directly to the feed.

Hi Bertadb1234, I have everything working in Unifi Protect fine, I get notifications, detections, etc etc.

I guess I am using the notifications as a test to see how it is working, and to start seeing if any automation could work and how the two integrate.

Below is a Notification is quickly setup to get notified when Motion was Active or Inactive for 1 minute.

I meant the camera devices on your hub:

If you aren't getting the events on this device, no app is going to be able to respond to them, either, as they don't exist. And if you aren't, there is probably something in your device (on the hub) or UniFi Protect (mobile app or web interface) you can adjust to get what you need.

If that's all working, we're back to your notification app:

What is the practical use case for this? It's an unusual automation, and while it should do what you describe, it might not be what you really want.

I also suspect at least part of it is unlikely to work as your expect. Does motion really stay active for at least a full minute on your camera? It will depend on your environment and possibly settings, but mine always seems to be a few seconds at most, perhaps off and on, even for what I'd call a continuous event. (Inactive seems less likely to be affected but will still depend on your environment.)

To get a sense for when events happen, you can either:

  • Watch "Current States" on the device detail page in real time;
  • Check the "Events" tab on the device detail page to see history (keep on the mind it does not update in real time, only on reload); or
  • Check "Logs" (filtered to just the device in question to make it easier) if you have descriptionText logging enabled on the device, as it is by default.
