Ubiquiti router recommendation

To be fair it ties back to the global issues we’re seeing and they aren’t the only networking vendor with stock issues. I just put in an order for a Palo Alto firewall and I have a 9 week lead time to actually get it shipped.

Ubiquiti seemed to have issues with it before the pandemic though... But the global supply chain cluster... has certainly not helped matters.

Agree...their stock problems seem like they were there before the pandemic issues piled on top.

Pssst, @snell, I have some Ubiquiti items in my garage...PM me if you want to pay 10x original price + shipping. (That's my friends and family discount rate.)

If anyone is interested in a UAP-AC-Pro or two US-8 switches... let me know. I need to clear out some items.

Thanks to the tips in this thread, I scored a WiFi 6E AP last night.

Lots of Ubiquiti devices came out of early access also last night. I finally was able to order two of the coke can size AX AP's WiFi 6 Mesh (There was a limit of 2)

I will be moving to of the older version of them (FlexHD) to the edge of the network and one outdoor.

Besides the smart sensor and Power unit... the next things I can actually "justify" would be two outdoor APs... trying to wait until I can get a WiFi 6 one.

It is already sold out

Glad I ordered mine a few days ago but I did notice another product I have been waiting to come back in stock is now in stock. I have been on the notify list for the past 10 months

Anyone have any idea what the $79 Dream Router is in the EA store (unavailable, of course)? As opposed to the $279 Dream Machine, which of course is also sold out.

Would like to get a better router for our summer beach house, but I do not want to go the whole UDM Pro and AP route for a very small house that's only occupied a few months out of the year.

This guy breaks down unifi hardware specs in a pretty digestible way.

I got a notification and tried to buy a wifi 6 mesh access point, was able to add to cart but not check out, out of stock again. In less than 5 mins :sob:.

My guess is that $79 price tag is only while in EA. No way Ubiquiti is going to sell the UDR at that price.

Thanks. The Dream Router supposedly is an upgrade to the Dream Machine, but the $79 price tag is hard to believe. Of course, if you can't buy it, doesn't matter what the price is.

I'd be surprised if it's not a typo. Nothing else in the EA store seems to be discounted.

I am getting closer to this purchase and want to make sure that I can check off everything I have with the Orbis. Does the udm pro have vpn server? What about a dyndns client? I haven’t seen these mentioned on the unifi website. I can configure both on my unraid server but would rather they be built into the router.

Has L2TP built in that you can easily configure on Apple devices. There are community articles on installing Wireguard too though does require more manual script based setup.

Yes it supports dyndns and many others. I personally use the free duckdns and it works just fine.

Same...

Does sound like a unicorn.

Their G3 Instant camera, power plug, and power strip all have pretty low prices compared to their other offerings. So the $79 could stay in order to get people into their ecosystem of products...

DuckDNS is great.. also with the VPN you don't necessarily have to run it on your router if it's too much of a pain to set up.. I'm installing a UDM Pro at a clients and will probably just use the RPi I use as an HE "companion" server. Of course the optimal setup would be at the router but for this use-case it's fine.

At home I am using Ubiquiti switch and cloudkey2 - my main firewall is a dedicated fanless pc running OPNSense but am tempted to change over to a UDM Pro.

UniFi recently introduced Teleport VPN (Requires firmware version 1.12.x/2.4.x or newer).
