one thing I should note... you mentioned signing up on the wait list (to be notified)... when you get an email, you had better check and buy items quickly... they tend to not stay in stock too long
If they restock, you may or may not get an email notification before they disappear again.
That was my experience. I happened to check back to see if there is stock and there was. Had not received any email.
They have added a disclaimer... signing up only gets you on a waitlist to get the email even. So they only send out X number of emails for however many devices they release. I find that the emails usually come out just after noon (EST) but by the time I actually see the email everything has been sold out (you need to sign up again to get the emails restarted). If you do NOT get an email, even if items come available, you will still be signed up.
So I check most every day I remember for the couple items I am interested in.
If you really wanna catch stuff in stock I would advise joining the ubiquitiinstock subreddit. They post when every item comes in stock. You can then just keep an eye on reddit or go as far as setting up an IFTTT notification for subreddit updates.
For those of you that have had UDMs for a while have you automated the download of the automated backup? If yes how are you doing that? I have considered using NodeRed like I do with the HE backups.
I just manually backup things whenever I make a change to the UniFi system, which is fairly rare these days.
Yup, they released 7.0 into the Official channel last week. I had not even realized my UDMP had upgraded to it until I was checking other things for my driver.
I hope you don't set it to auto update. There was a bug in the last version that would download the preview channel if you were enrolled in early access for their hardware. This is supposedly fixed in this release but I never liked surprises with updates on my network layer.
And some products they find hardware/chip problems with and never release at all, or redo the hardware before releasing. In those cases you're just left with an unsupported brick. Doesn't happen a lot but has happened multiple times.
Ask me how I know.
I am on Early Access (but have none of the hardware, have never managed to get any). But for the software channels I allow it to update to the Official only (nothing earlier).
Understood, however the bug in the UniFi firmware resulted in Release Candidate software being installed on machine configured for Official only. Thus, the recommendation to not allow Automatic Updates whatsoever.
I am on Early Access software and always recommend that folks not use it. Avoid 6.2.9 UAP firmware (early access of course) released last week. IOT devices do not like that release.
Thanks for the warning. Had not had any issues to date... But easy enough to disable once I am home (I do not allow remote access).
Same...disabled all Unifi/Ubiquiti remote access.
I would feel encouraged even if they resumed selling the UXG-Pro in the early access store.
It would suggest they haven't totally abandoned it. Mine certainly isn't a brick, and the last firmware update was released just three months ago.
But when I bought it over a year ago, I was definitely not expecting it to remain in some kind of pre-release limbo indefinitely. But that was my first experience with Unifi gear. Live and learn.
I am still hoping for things like the Smart Sensor (which is not in Early Access anymore, but I have NEVER been able to get one regardless) and the (now) Power Distribution Professional (which has been renamed like 3 times already).
There are plenty of other things I WISH I could get... especially so I could add them into my drivers... but I can only go with the things I can AFFORD to get (and justifiable reasons to afford them).
If you are trying to catch Unifi products in stock Chris from Crosstalk solutions has setup a web site where you get notified when things are in stock and then go out of stock. His free tier covers a simple rule while the paid tier allows you to customize:
I was able to snag four Wifi 6 Long Range AP's yesterday when I got the email for a new project. Without this my client would still be waiting. They sold out very quickly.
See, this is pretty awesome... and at the same time shows one of the biggest issues I see with Ubiquiti getting better adoption... The lack of stock (and it often seems like what little appears is gone in seconds, many times to show up on eBay at huge markups).
Thankfully I do not use it as a business or such... but even as an enthusiast it is problematic.
