Try to figure out this one - cat tracking

My wife is always asking me which cat is in the house and which cat is outside (we have 3). I don't care one iota about cat status. How can HE help me track the kitties.

Expensive way? Put GPS collars or BT collars on them and integrate it. Cheap way? Put a bell on one cat but not the other.

As John said, you can use BlueTooth beacons. Here’s a link to get you going:

You can bring beacon states into Hubitat via Maker API.

Option C put a really big dog outside and then the cats are always inside.

Or you could have the device implanted, like a microchip, if your cats don’t wear collars. You could even implant a large battery so that changing the battery wouldn’t happen so often, or put a Qi charger in the cat bed.

This doesn't require HE, but it will do the job.

Have to admit, that is a cool product.

We have the earlier version of this, had it quite a while great for stopping other cats getting in. But the new one that has the hub would be even better for keeping a eye on him, it just needs to integrate with hubitat :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If we all chip in and buy one for @bravenel's birthday, I'm sure it'll be integrated in no time!

For once it's cheaper here

Nice job guys. I did not know this existed. I will look into it. Thanks

That does look cool. I don't have any cats and I want one.

I forget that there are places where it's OK to let your cat (or any small pet) outside alone - any small pets outdoors in SoCal are at high risk of becoming coyote appetizers. We can't let our small dogs outside alone.

All we have to worry about here in SO-IL is possums, raccoons and skunks. The cats are smart enough to leave them alone. Dogs have to be contained but the cats can come and go.

Which is fair, because they don't care one iota about our status either.

Except at feeding time. My cat sure wants my attention 2x a day. The rest of the time you are 100% spot on.

I don't own one but I wrote an integration for this earlier this year, ported the existing ST app. It's available in HPM or GitHub - dcmeglio/hubitat-sure-petcare-petdoor

Damn...you can't turn around in HE Land w/out bumping into another unexpected but extremely welcome integration.

I can vouch for the SurePet door and the great port of @dman2306. It just works really well.

Until you have your covid chip injected and it goes haywire
