Is that the new hub you are using?
Matter over WiFi (MoW) is definitely simpler. However, as WiFi is fairly power hungry, most all MoW devices need to be mains-powered.
Matter over Thread (MoT) has the benefit of using a very low-power mesh network, similiar to Zigbee and Z-Wave. As such, most MoT devices are battery powered. And, when used with a Thread Border Router (TBR), like the Thread radio found in Hubitat's C8 Pro Thread hub, can continue to operate even when one's home WiFi network is down. Again, this is much more similar to Zigbee and Z-Wave.
Both MoW and MoT devices have their Pros and Cons.
Matter creates its own private IPv6 network for devices to communicate over. As long as your router/network equipment does not explicitly block IPv6, it should 'just work'.
Better yet, have ram and storage be user expandable and have a cheaper barebone option. I have unused ddr4 sodimm sticks and microsd cards...

of thought, also make the wireless parts modular. So if the box can support three wireless modules, then users can mix and match to have the radios they want and reduce the price by excluding unneeded radios:
- 1 x zigbee + 1 x zwave + 1 x thread
- 3 x zigbee (each on different channel)
- <wifi module?>
I ordered the new Thread hub a few days ago to replace my Z-Wave C8P hub (I have a 2nd C8P for Zigbee for a 2 hub set up). I'll end up either with a spare C8P or end up selling it.
I have several devices connected now on Thread on Alexa then use Matter to commission it on my C8P hub I have Z-Wave on now; I'm looking forward to moving it all over to the new C8P with Thread hub. There's more Matter/Thread devices I was looking to get in the future so this is great there's finally a hub that supports Thread without having to pair it with something like Alexa first.
I've looked at this a few times but all I see is that its for US only, or am I missing something
I think the Thread hubs all came with a US power supply. I believe that if you can provide your own power source, Hubitat will ship anywhere. Tagging @bobbyD for clarification.
Another thing, as of yet after several attempts I am still unable to commission any Matter / WIFI devives on my C8 Pro without using an Echo to push them through and I cannot commission any matter/thread devices any way
Yes, they ship with a us usb power adapter and the z-wave is preset to us.
So use another local usb power source and change the z-wave frequency on the z-wave page and you're good to go

Is the C7 power supply suitable?
Just so you know "thread" doesn't work like that, or more specifically "matter" does not. You will add the hub to the thread network like any other device which will become part of the network and will provide another route to the internet for your existing devices. However to bring the devices into Hubitat your have to share each device and add it just like you would have before.
Adding a new device though you should be able to do it from the app or web UI. This will add it to the thread network and to Hubitat at the same time.
the key is it's not like zigbee or z-wave when you have to remove and rejoin everything, as you can have multiple border routers and they can be added or removed.
The Hubitat C8 Pro Thread hub will create its own Matter over Thread (MoT)mesh network. It will not join an existing Thread network (at least not at this time, as Hubitat has not added support for thisâŚyet.) Thus, any existing MoT devices will need to be unpaired from their current TBR, factory reset, and then paired to the Hubitat C8 Pro Thread hub.
I currently have the following MoT devices paired to my C8 Pro Thread hub. They are working well.
- 1 x Aqara W100 Temp/Humidity sensor
- 1 x IKEA BILRESA 2-btn controller
- 1 x IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE Temp/Humidity sensor
- 1 x IKEA KLIPPBOK Leak sensor
- 2 x Eve Energy Outlet
- 1 x Third Reality Night Light
- 1 x
IKEA GRILLPLATS outlet(still will not pair directly to the C8 Pro T hub)
Note: I did make sure to update the firmware on all of the IKEA devices before pairing them to the HE hub using Apple Home. Some of the IKEA devices are pretty flakey on their original firmware.
UPDATE: The IKEA GRILLPLATS outlet still has issues pairing directly to the C* Pro T hub's Thread radio. See discussion below for details.
Are you certain that you have this device directly connected to Hubitat? I have had no success joining the GRILLPLATS directly using the web interface. If you use the app (on an Apple device), it appears to work but actually joins it to an existing Thread network, not Hubitat. The difference is hard to distinguish.
Otherwise, as noted, I have many IKEA Matter over Thread devices with current firmware joined directly to Hubitat.
I'm really glad you put this in the "thread" as I'm a little bit disappointed in hearing it. This is helping the willpower to hold off on buying and taking my chances that stock is enough. I've worked hard to get me various boarder routers (Google, Apple, and Samsung) all on the same thread network. I have zero interest in Hubitat creating a competing network. Hopefully, this is fixed quickly since prior to release the only way to get thread devices on to Hubitat was from a pre-existing thread network. This really should have been table stakes for releasing the device, but knowing Hubitat, I'm sure it is fairly high on their priorities.
How would I determine which Thread network the GRILLPLATS outlet is connected to?
That is really disappointing. I was under (probably wrong) assumption that ver.1.4 addresses multiple networks issue.
Can a firmware update change a C8 Pro from Zigbee protocol to Thread protocol?
No.
I am away from home base for a couple weeks so donât have access to experiment, but the way I ultimately determined that was to power off my Apple TV (which has an active Thread network) and tried to control the smart plug from Hubitat. Could not.
How did you commission the GRILLPLATS .. with the mobile app or the web UI?
I there any specific documentation for the Hubitat thread support? I have one of these boxes on order and it will be delivered on 8/29. I have enough experience with Matter and thread to know that nobody implements thread in a consistent manner (in spite of the standards). I'm concerned that Hubitat has the horse (the hardware) in front of the cart (documentation).
