If it was accidental, then he learned what not to do. If it was deliberate, then it is something ou will need to correct. A lot depends also on how old your son is.
Version 1 had a metal plate just below the pushbutton that was supposed to improve signal reception. I'm toying with using a TR switch's helix drive as an actuator for a visual flagging device on the mailbox 250 ft from the house. The mailbox already receives a zb signal and HE sets an indicator light in the house and starts a TTS routine. However, if I'm away from the house when the mail is delivered I need a flag on the mailbox so I'll pick up the mail as I pull in the driveway.
I wonder which version has the better reception?
It has been a long time since I provided an update. My front porch and deck lights have photocells. Those appear to have failed. I purchased two of the newest generation of these to use. They are model: 3RSS009Z and are sleeker than the version 2. Unfortunately, I did not capture a fingerprint to post. I guess I will have to reset it and re-pair it to grab that. It detected as a generic Zigbee switch. I changed to the Third Reality Switch, and it works as expected. The only quirk is that the battery level is reading "200." I don't know if that will straighten out with time. I just paired them a few minutes ago.
Anyway, I will be moving the version 2 back out to the utility room to automate that light again. I am happy with these switches. They are certainly less expensive than an in-wall Jasco/GE switch.
