Is anyone else using the Third Reality RGB Bulb? Are your colors correct? Mine are WAY off. If I choose red I get some yellow orange color, I choose white and I get red. Some colors are what they are expected to be, like blue and yellow. Any fix for this or should I ditch these bulbs?
You could try finding the correct hue setting in the driver UI, then setting custom colors in RM, vs using the inbuilt color names. Be sure to set the saturation to 100
Does that happen even from the devices page in the UI, or is it only from RM. I know the Color picker can cause some confusion as it doesn't really match the Hubitat Color Scale.
Personally I would probably return them then. If you were talking about Color Temp settings those can vary wildly between devices, but Color should be fairly close. Allot of it comes down to how well the pixels are calibrated since most likely everything is just a mixture of red, green, blue diodes in the device. Is there possibly a firmware update for the controller? If not I would be boxing them up and sending them on there way. There are two many good options now to deal with that.
It could also just be a faulty batch. but others should be able to help with determining that.
Does manually setting it to hue 0 and saturation 100 (and level 100, or whatever you want) give you what you want? You could also try hue 100 or something close to either end (but between these values). Basically what Mike said, at least if you wanted to start with red. That should be the reddest red the device can make.
Not all bulbs are great at this or some other colors, often including blues and greens, depending on their gamut, but the color could also just be a bit "off" from typical hue values or those compared to other manufacturers. I don't have these so can't speak to them specifically, other than that performance is often (but not always) correlated with price, and I've been disappointed with a lot of cheaper devices.
Yeah, I think they are going back. They aren't even consistently wrong. I can choose white and get red and then choose white again and get orange. I should have just stuck with tried and true Hue.
If I set hue to 0 and saturation to 100 I actually do get red. However that doesn't help me when I pick up my iPhone, go into Home and choose red but get another color.
I have four of them in service currently and have no issues with color at all. They all work fine. They go to the color I set and repeatedly do so. I did get a Third Reality night light once however that done almost exactly what you are saying. I sent it back, got a new one, and it was fine.
That makes no sense. I have had really good results with them. I don't know enough about all this but could it be a driver issue or something? I honestly don't know.
To your point my issue the the night light was 1 of 2 that was bad.
If you enable debug logging, that driver should log the actual values that get passed to the Hubitat commands (from Apple Home or anywhere). I'd start by seeing what those values are when you set the device to red the way that doesn't work as you expect.
