Sensors?

What contact sensors are you all using. Ive installed aeotec sensor 7 around my house. They have worked great. However, finding affordable, reliable 1/2 AA batteries has been a challenge. Amazon had this size in amazon basics brand at one time and thats been the best deal I've gotten. Ive tried other off brands as well as SAFT and everytime i get some that wont work.

Z-wave only? Or zigbee too?

The xfinity XHS2-UE (zigbee) are darn good -- excellent battery life and very reliable. I haven't checked lately, but they should be available for cheap / in bulk on eBay (that's where I got mine years ago). I generally avoid really cheap sensors (fear of quality issues), but these are indeed solid performers.

I also use some Zooz zse41s (paired LR). Also very reliable, and battery life is fine overall, but it's just a 2032. The xfinity's use a 2450.

I have several Ring Alarm contact sensors (2nd Gen) (Zwave) that have worked well for years. They pair directly to HE. They use two (2) - CR2032 batteries and have good battery life.

I suppose it's going to make a difference where you are for Z Wave. There's not much in the UK/EU frequency. I only have one of the Aeotec ones where I needed the external input. A few years ago I got some cheap Neo Coolcam contacts which take a standard CR2. No issues with those. In the UK they're £26 on Amazon but have a long delivery time. Ali Express might be a better bet - only £11.15 there for EU frequency:

Honestly, at this point i guess im open to both if its a good one. I started with zwave only back with schlage link (nexia, or whatever it may be now) so thats what comes to mind first. Now that hubs have both...

I'd keep in mind that if you're currently primarily Z Wave, you might be best keeping it that way for the contacts. As the contacts aren't powered and don't repeat, a decent underlying mesh will be important.

Apparently lr is not available in EU or UK.

I originally thought… there’s no way, but wow you're right no LR for EU/UK. I had no clue. Maybe everyone gets LR when 900 series is released? :man_shrugging:t3:

+1 on these. They have been rock solid for me and the battery life has been amazing. You can still find them for under $4 a piece on ebay if you buy a lot of 10. I bought 20 a while back.
