Room lighting failing

I am having a problem with RL app.
Randomly, some of my lights are not turning on when they should, and sometimes only a few of them turn on.
Here is the log of a RL rule that ran, but did not turn on the lights, even when I manually activated a couple of times:

Even though RL thinks it turned the lights on, none of them were actually on, and the indications in the "state" column for all the lights was a red X.
the screenshot was after I clicked on Turn off, then clicked on Activate, but they were all X

Kinda looks like ALL the lights lost communication.
I used to have a RM rule for the same lights and that always seemed to work,, just RL has been flakey.
Also a C8 on 2.3.6.140. Seems to run a little hot too:

just wondering if the hub is too busy and missing commands....

The lights are zigbee lights.
Strange!

What logs and events do you see for the lights when this occurs?

I have seen this in the past with RL.... the light is turned on, then within 1 second is turned off then within .5 seconds, back on... sometimes. Another oddity with RL?

Well tonight, 9/30, RL failed again, and ALL the lights in the dining room were red X.

Here is the by mode log:

NONE of the lights came on, they ALL had the dreaded red X in RL.
I went to the device page for the table light and manually click on ON and ALL of the light's red X in RL were gone (not just the table light).
I then clicked on ACTIVATE in RL and they all came on like they should have.

ALL of these lights are within 10 feet of the hub.
IF it is my zigbee mesh, how do I find the culprit?

I think I will go back to my C7 and see what happens tomorrow night.
I don't suppose that I can import a C8 backup onto the C7?
Otherwise I will make sure I have an identical RL rule for the dining room lights. The hub will be in the exact same location too.

Noticed that when the lights failed, there were NO "turned on" commands, ONLY a "set level".
A clue???

setLevel implies on, there is no need for an explicit on.

Do you have pre-staging enabled? That would explain your problem.

Why is there no CT or color commands either ?
There is no Pre staging option in the driver.
There IS pre staging in the Sengled color plus driver though... I might change drivers for these lights.

When I changed to the Sengled Element color Plus driver, the option for pre staging was there but NOT enabled.

I am still trying to identify the problem, and did "downgrade" to the C7 to see if things change.
I wondered what the red X meant also?

I did noticed when I clicked on the X that it changed to the filled circle and the light turned on.
Then I clicked on the circle to turn the light off and it turned off, the circle became "hollow'" then a second later the page refreshed (a quick flash), and the red X re-appeared.
This happened while the light was dimming. The reporting interval for the light is set at 5 seconds... could the refresh for the status be timing out before the light reports it's state?
I did not refresh the page though.

This is on the C7 with the Sengled driver.

Red X appears when light does not report promptly. Why 5 seconds to report? It should report immediately.

The is the default setting in the driver.
I will change it to 1 second as the only options are disable/1 sec/5 sec. This is the attribute change reporting interval setting.

Which driver?

The Sengled Element Color Plus... this is a native driver in HE.

Please show a screenshot of the setting you are referring to.

do all of these bulbs turn on and off reliably when activated via each device's device details page?

Yes they do. IT seems that RL has a problem when it tries to refresh the state of the light and is randomly failing.

Just to add.... IF it is set to 5 seconds, RL fails more often when clicking on the status icon (circle) to manually control the light, than with 1 second.

The setting "Attribute Reporting Interval ". The options are disabled/1 second/5 seconds
If I disable it, RL fails with the red X

This isn't a failure, just the UI not knowing what state the light is in.

Please try the advanced zigbee RGBW driver with these bulbs, it works completely differently under the hood and may well work better for you in this case.

But when the red X is there, RL doesn't operate the light.
In this case, would using Force or Activate even if already activated work?

As Mike.maxwell indicated, I will switch to the advanced zigbee rgbw driver and see what happens.

thank youl. I will give that driver a try.
I thought I was using that before, but I will try it.

be sure to click the configure command after changing the drivers.
