[RELEASE] Zooz Garage Door Opener

I went ahead and ordered a new ecolink tilt sensor. This one is Gen 5 and it claim to be solid state using an accelerometer.

Once this new sensor comes in then I am gonna take my old one part and see if there a part number on that ball sensor where I might be able to order a replacement ball sensor then make a DIY post on about replacing it here for fun.

I prefer anything solid state over ball type sensors thou. Just something fun to do if I could fix my old one maybe put it in my mail box or something lol.

You can get a package of them for $8

Better though is to get the mercury ones:

Because they can't stick... if you're going to repair it. Otherwise the solid state ones are better.

Reed switch on the track and magnet on the door is another reliable solution.

This app has been operating reliably over the years for me.
An Ecolink sensor may, or may not, lol, be sticking periodically, but no big deal so far.

Thanks.

I'll order the mercury ones.

I am still going to use the new solid state on the garage door but I'll find other use for the old sensor with mercury switch.

For anyone interested, I confirmed this app / driver combination works perfectly with a Zooz Zen17 universal relay ZOOZ ZEN17 UNIVERSAL RELAY – ZOOZ

In my case, I have a Chamberlain garage door opener with a yellow "learn" button. I used a single button remote control model number 950ESTD-MC as the trigger, and an open/close magnetic contact switch I had previously installed on the door. Here are some images of the installation. The red and black wires go to the open/close contact switch (connected to Zen17 sensor 2 contacts), and the white wires are the open/close trigger wires (connected to the Normally Open contact on Zen17 relay 1).

Forgive my messy soldering job! My eyes and hands dont work quite as well as they used to!

Just gotta say Thank You for this solution. I bought the generic version of the 893LM from Amazon (2pcs for $14.75) and a Zen16_v2, wired everything together, installed the apps, and everything works perfectly.
I wired the remote up to a 3V DC power source so I never have to change batteries. Designed and 3D printed a box that the remote PCB perfectly snaps into. Hung the setup on a closet wall out of the way.

The current state of my garage door is stuck in "Closing." The sate of the contact correctly changes from open to closed but the door will not update. I tried rebooting the hub and clicking the refresh button, but neither help. Any suggestions on what I can do to get he door state to show the correct info?

Open and close the door.

I have tried that and it still did not update.

Go into the app and make sure your devices are selected correctly.
Turn on debug logging at the bottom.
Turn on all logging for the tilt sensor as well.

Then open and close the door, post the logs.

Did you open/close it using dumb button, or using the smart relay? Cycling the door via the smart relay (not dumb button) helps snap all my stuff back together when it occasionally gets out of sync.

What smart relay and position sensor are you using with the app?

It has started working again, But it looks like I am getting an error in the app.

This is the log from the app:

This is the log from the Open close Sensor connected to the Zoon Zen17.

I am not sure of the brand of position sensor, but it is a wired one connected to a Zooz Zen17

You need to reboot your hub, something bad is going on. See if the errors go away after that.

I did not get any errors after the reboot. Thanks for your help

I've been running a Zooz ZEN16 v1 for a while, and finally swapped it for a v2 so I can have the independent inputs. Wired up the button on the wall, and a fully open/fully closed reed switch. I did this because I had been using the muxa garage door app forever... is there any benefit to using this app/driver combo over the muxa?

Being able to detect when the door gets stuck or is intentionally-vented seems like a plus.

I'm not familiar with that Muxa option -- but if it works for you and you're used to it, no point in rocking the boat with something new.

The Zooz app is very reliable -- these days, it's gotta be one of the oldest Groovy apps that's still alive & kickin' (back from the heyday of SmartThings), so it's a tried-&-true performer. But it's pretty basic -- no bells & whistles.

I also use 2 reed sensors (full open & full close) in my GDO setup... Since this Zooz app can only integrate one sensor, I just use the full-closed sensor. Then I have a separate RM rule that handles a bounced-back-open or stuck-in-middle situation (thankfully neither has ever happened).

Makes sense on the external logic. I've actually considered just using a virtual garage door and setting it all via WebCore.

I'm experiencing sticky reed switches on my zooz. Not sure if they're just shitty switches or what. Maybe interference.

Got these cheap ones but they all seemed similar. Any thoughts?

Those look fine -- after all, these things are all pretty basic in overall design.... Any way you can bench test one to help rule out a performance-vs-interference issue?

I've been using these for years, and I've had no problems with misses or interference.
