It's in the advanced section, but I'll move it. The slider won't impact iOS though. Their locator service doesn't use it. I'll do something with the +follow for iOS which is very similar.
I do wonder if turning off Wi-Fi (either manually or via the automatic setting to turn it off when not near places where you typically use Wi-Fi.) is not so problemmatic on Android phones that have this setting which appears to allow for scanning for nearby Wi-Fi channels while Wi-Fi connections are off...not sure if this is on all recent phones, or just Samsung. Part of Location settings:
@lpakula Just wanted to inform that after adding the +follow to Regions list, my daughters iPhone successfully arrived at the appropriate measurements and was less than 15 sec difference from the Life360 app.
The only consequence is my android based Owntracks device shows current location as:
- location : Home,+follow
Where as the Iphone shows:
- location : Home
Maybe I did not add it correctly. I simply put and entry +follow into the HE app under 'add regions' and had that push configuration to devices. I left the Detection radius and lat/long to the values that were filled in, no changes. I was thinking I should had deleted those values and left it as blanks.
Please inform me as to any corrections in my process.
The iphone is also still getting the 'null' entry, see log:
2024-01-17 05:44:54.465 PM [debug] Updating 'null' presence for OwnTracks - Jessica -- 0.2 mi from Home, Battery: 97%, Velocity: 23.612 mph, accuracy: 16 ft, Location:
Thanks!
Ok great! What you did is correct. Its pushing that location to the Android as well, that's why it's reporting on it. I'll filter those off so they don't show up on the location as +follow
Since the coordinates don't really matter for +follow, just change them to someplace else. Maybe the middle of the Atlantic Ocean?
It's on the newer Pixel's as well.
Good point! I can have the HE app just automatically add the North Pole or something like that with a +follow. That way iOS will always work.
Now Iām curious is this +follow really needed in iOS for quicker updates? My phone seems to be quite quick in noticing me leaving and arriving already
I don't have actual numbers but it seemed to really help on my brides iphone.
Next version will automatically create a +follow region out there at 0,0 in the Atlantic.
Seems I missed that trigger type. Should be good in the next version, but let me know if I missed it.
ah HA!
It make a great difference, in my use case at least.
I manually added 0,0 to +follow region and manually sent update from Android mobile device and now it shows 'Home' only!
Thanks
@lpakula As a side note, I am very enthusiastic of your efforts in developing this app for HE users.
I look forward to giving the 'Life360' corporation the just dessert they have brought upon themselves by undermining the home automation community and moreover their potential monetary loss by not working to pursue a solution which would incorporate all avenues of user potential for their product.
Not a problem! I started this project for my selfish needs, so I'm glad others can get some benefit from it!
I just pushed up 1.6.18.
@bbrannon after you update, can you go to the "Maintenance" section at the bottom of the HE app, and do the "Reset to Defaults". That will fix your error issues and lack of updates.
I've added an automatic +follow region that gets sent to all the phones. If you delete it, it's automatically created the next time you open the HE app.
The changing home name is fixed as well. You will need to reselect your home location though. The changes end up clearing the name off the list.
Let me know if that null is gone from the debug log!
Newest version is working for me! Thanks very much.
I've tried to start using Google maps instead of OpenStreetMap. Looks so more familiar to me.
Unfortunately I don't know how to start. I found a post where @lpakula explained step by step what he did to setup the Google API key and to implement into the APK. But to be honest, I'm totally lost. I installed Android Studio but got stuck at that point. Also I wasn't able to find any mentioned description in the readme file of the developer at github.
Since I plane to use this great package instead of Life360, I would like to change the maps.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
It looks like the Recorder enablement step where you create the user JSON isn't working.
When I select the slider it almost immediately returns and there are no entries in the log.
No rush, but wanted to note this.
Happy to see this project going so great!
It's been working a-o-k for me for close to two weeks now, including a 2nd hub (Work) with it's own 2 users and 1 other user (myself) forwarded from the Home hub
Question for @lpakula : Can the Friends section from the mobile app be disabled, along with their positions on the map? As in disable the option to see other users locations and each user manages their own relation with the hub. Use case: Seeing each other's location is fine for me and my family members, but not OK for me and my two work colleagues.
Cheers,
Sebastian
