[RELEASE] HD+ - Android Dashboard

If you click on it, you should see a new device at the bottom that is usable in the dashboard.

@jpage4500 I'm wondering if you agree. If a temp sensor reports it is 76.0 ° - I get a 76° on the tile. If the temp is 76.1° I get 76.1°. Can your setting be adjusted to display the decimal based on my settings of 'Show 1 decimal place' for all digits, including the zero? because of the difference in characters, the font size changes and the visual oddity is very apparent!

Whoa. That was a painful experience! - This morning I loaded up my Bluestacks with Hubitat Android Dashboard as I do every day - the custom Icons I had applied to all motion sensors (each used the same 'Off' but each had it's own special 'On' Icon) reverted. I did NOT snap a backup so toss that 10-15 minutes of work!
I admit, I was doing some funky stuff. I had moved all motion sensors into a group in an attempt to use the 'stack' icon function, then when it didn't work well, I removed them from folder by deleteing the folder. When I did that, they existed correctly last night afterwards. But the restart this morning was munged.
I think there's a stumble in the stacked icons / remove from folder area... I won't be able to reproduce it exactly since I can't remember the exact steps - but the assigned Icons have reverted in an unexpected way... keep a weathered eye open @jpage4500 !!

I cannot change the icon on a Boolean Variable tile. The usual methods do not work.

Having a time tile issue on my two mounted fire tabs since last update (I think). Every day, when the clock strikes 6am, the time tile freezes at 6am. Everything else works. In fact, if I hit the tile, it expands and the correct time displays. At first, I thought the app was freezing, so I would dump it an restart. Yesterday I realized it seems to be just that tile. I removed it an re-added it - same thing. Ideas?

This may not be possible but is their a way you could create a special tile for notifications. Would be awesome to have a dashboard tile that can act as a notification device, so when something goes wrong my echo's tell me, my phone gets a text, and the generic "notification tile" gets a sticky text telling me the problem.

Personally I'd have it as a full screen length as a banner type of box.

There was a discussion awhile back about fire tablets and their stupid ad screen and possible work arounds. Nothing worked so I took Joe's advice and just left the tablets on all the time. I just noticed that the fire tab (mines fire 8hd 8th gen) has the ability to pin an app so that it displays and not that ad screen when the screen turns on. Maybe you all knew about this but I didn't or didn't understand. So now I'm wonder with this new knowledge is their a way to trigger that screen on and off other than using the power button. Camera, external Bluetooth connected button paired to the tablet, zigbee button connected to hubitat, Echo speaker, motion sensor, etc? Thoughts?

Have you considered Fire Toolbox and Fully Single Kiosk App?

I have not. I believe the toolbox was broken after my gen 8 tablets were updated, but fully might do the trick. Once everything is setup I intend to block internet access to these tablets, does that work with fully?

Not sure. Let us know what you find out.

Well I tried it. The kiosk app says it is not compatible with fire tablets but I went ahead anyways. I am here to report that it WORKS. Motion detection works on the Fully Single app kios by using the android APK on a fire tablet. To top it off according to their website, though I havent tried it.

Your devices must be able to connect to https://licensing.fully-kiosk.com for the single or volume license activation. Once activated the device may keep offline for indefinite time without loosing the license.

Found a side use for this WONDERFUL dashboard. I loaded it up on my fire tv stick and it works pretty well. Cant make some adjustments but im hoping that will get fixed. So now I have combined, as my home screen, my home automation and my tv controls. Using the links to apps works just amazing. Those of you with fire sticks are probably annoyed by the amazon curated content and adds. This seems to be an awesome solution. Last piece of the TV puzzle is figure out how to pin an app on fire stick, or force it to open the dashboard as the UI on bootup.

Thanks - yeah I tried to get the app to work with the Android TV UI a while back. I haven't used it in a while so let me know is you see any issues and I can try to get them fixed.

Last piece of the TV puzzle is figure out how to pin an app on fire stick, or force it to open the dashboard as the UI on bootup.

Without rooting one (not sure if that's even possible with the latest ones) I'm not sure you'll be able to boot into any apps. However, if you have one of the newer remotes that have app shortcut buttons (ie: Disney+, Netflix, etc) - you can remap them to open an app instead.

Hmm.. I've actually noticed a similar thing with 1 of 2 of my tablets.. At least it happened a couple of mornings randomly. I scrolled down and up again (so the tile went out and back into view) and it worked fine after that. I'll look into what might have caused it.

I powered the tabs all the way down and back on. Seems to be OK, for now -- only need a few hours.

I experience the same -- if I did any display change -- scrolled past it or went in to edit mode, it would be OK.

I'll watch it -- I don't imagine it should have been the tablet time since if I pressed the tile, the expanded display would show the correct time.

I started working on a possible solution to this but never finished it.. there's now an option to have a screen saver after a certain timeout period.. basically the screen would go as black as I can make it. The real plan though is to connect it to the 'always on' times so the screen saver would be used instead of just letting the tablet turn off (for devices like the Fire tablet which can't be turned back on again automatically).

... Camera, external Bluetooth connected button paired to the tablet, zigbee button connected to hubitat, Echo speaker, motion sensor, etc? Thoughts?

After I make the changes above I would be able to add the ability to have a device turn the screen on - such as a motion or presence sensor. I can't do that today because when the screen is off the app isn't running at all so it's not receiving any events from the Hub.

My kids activities have taken up just about all of my free time lately but that will slow down in a few weeks and I'll have more time to spend on the dashboard

What kind of notifications are you talking about? Hubitat app notifications that are sent to your phone?

Technically yes, with special 'notification access' permission an Android app can intercept notifications intended for another app like the Hubitat Android app. I have thought about doing this in the past.. mostly just so I could better control how they're displayed and open the Dashboard when clicked (vs the Hubitat Android app). I didn't think about displaying past notifications on a tile but that would be pretty easy to do too.

Or are you talking about some other kind of notifications?

I had a weather.gov radar image as a tile that updated. It seems to have been tombstoned. I did some fiddling on wunderground and found this:

https://www.wunderground.com/radar/us

Choose your region in the drop down box -- yours might not be listed. Once you choose, the map will show additional stations on the map. Once you choose your station, you can zoom and such - then save image -- it will give you the URL to put on your dashboard.

I now have the radar back on my dashboard.

Thinking about my washer and dryer notifying, etc. would be nice if it stayed up until dismissed by clicking the tile or something.

in a couple days I'll have the time to to build out the dashboard and see more clearly what works and doesn't. Currently I mostly use it to view my cameras connected to blue iris. I also have an Anker android projector, so I'm check that too
