Registering to 2 hubs from same phone

I want to register to 2 hubs at the same time because I want to use my phone as a arrival sensor for both hubs.
Is this possible ? If not possible directly, is there a workaround ?

thx

Are they on the same Network / Subnet?

If they are located at the same place (same house, same property) and on the same network? If so, then you can use hubmesh to sink the modes of both hubs. This is what I do.

If they are separate homes, then you will need to have a separate geofencing app to do this, something like Locative for IOS (not sure what is available on Android). Where you can setup multiple geofence zones and react differently to each, If this is the case, I'll point you to a great right up on how to di it for locative. And this is what I did when I had 2 properties for a few years.

no

I use Android and there is Tasker app for such tasks. I did use it when I was using Smartthings and I know how to configure it as a presence sensor BUT I don't really prefer to use a 3rd party app for this.
Besides , I really would like to be registered to both Hubs for other purposes (like receiving notifications from both apps)

A workaround would be to clone the app (one for work profile and one for personal profile on the Samsung phone)
But this is also not a very clean solution.

Isn't there any local (Hubitat included) solution for 2 homes ?

You can register on both hubs and you will receive notifications from each hub even if the app is not not "connected" to it. The only difference is that you are seing only one hub at a time on the app but notifications will come in from both. Within the app, you can switch hubs to control devices on each hub, see dashboards for each hub, etc.

The only thing you can't do at the moment is have 2 geofence locations from the current app, this might change as this has been asked in the past few months since the new app came out. No one said no to this request, but no one said yes either, they will look in to it. So you could go to the app section and ask for this feature and see if something has been started or not.

So for now, only thing you can do is 3rd party app for this kind of situation.

ok. as a workaround I will use a clone of the app by using secure folders on Samsung phone.
Hopefully this can change in future and we can register to multiple hubs from Hubitat app.

I have 2 hubs on 2 different locations but I can select only one geofence area on the map.
This geofence does not change when I change hubs. (when I register to the other hub from the app)
How can I have 2 geofence on the map ? (or 1 geofence per hub )

As stated above, you can't have more than 1 geofence on the map. you will need to use a third party app.

I had thought this was only within one hub. (when registered to one hub you can only have its geofence)
So my assumption was to be able to get 2 separate geofence (one for each hub) when registering to each hub.
Now I understand that the app only has one geofence and that is used globally.
Then what's the point of having a location for each hub ?

Really weird. And really weird that Hubitat did not fix this situation for so many years...

All of the other things that @nclark explained are possible while the mobile app is connected to two hubs:

It’s weird because it doesn’t meet your specific expectations or needs?

You can make a feature request here.

Hubitat staff have added many features requested by the community over the years, particularly if it’s clear that the request is one that many people want.

Known issue, fix date is still TBD

Not sure if it’s an “issue” with a “fix” planned.

Isn’t it more of a feature request, which might, or might not, be added in the future?

@marktheknife

why are you getting rude when someone has a different perspective than yours ?

I didn't say "what is the point of having multiple hubs on the app" , I said "what's the point of having a location for each hub"
There is no use of the "location" (geolocation) in the app if it will not be identified as a geofence. Or maybe there is some use but I don't see it. Clearly it is not what @nclark has explained.

This is not my specific expectation. Am I the only one with multiple hubs on different locations ? I don't think so.
It is weird because :

  • I have 2 hubs on 1 account
  • these 2 hubs have different geolocations (lat/lon) defined on hub settings
  • I have 2 hubs that I can register on the app
  • at one time I can register to one hub only
  • BUT the geofence does not change together with the hub change
    This is WEIRD

And, I won't make a feature request, because: even my support requests are not taken into account. I don't think my feature request will be taken...

I am not looking for your help. Just don't be rude, and try to change your perspective when someone is describing an issue.

OK, then don’t make a feature request for a feature that you want. :man_shrugging:

We are many and that is why we use a third party app that you plainly don't want to do, I have used it this way for 2+ years and now that I have only one property again, I still use that 3rd party app for reliability and the fact that I can even have several concentric circles around my home and use that to determine if I'm leaving, coming back home or just going at the corner store.

As stated above by @kampto, the feature has been asked and they are considering it, but if no one else asks for it, more important features will go higher up the list and this one will go down to the bottom, your choice of course!!!

First off I never talked about the location setting in the hub, only on the app because that is what you asked for. Second, the location in the hub is there to be able to determine things like time zone, sunset and sunrise, etc.

I don't feel like @marktheknife was rude in any way, he just stated that if the app does not fill a need for you, to just make a request for it being added, I have done so many times and almost all have been fulfilled, the latest I asked for actually took ~5 hours from ask to Beta release and went public within a few days.

since everybody insisted that I should open a feature request, I wrote it here:

I don't think that this will be taken into account. But in any case...

No one insisted you do anything.

It’s simply a logical next step to take if there’s a feature you want to see implemented.

Good luck with your feature request.

oh come on...

Not with the Hubitat app. You are not the only person by far that has multiple hubs in multiple locations, and this certainly isn't the first time this has come up. The Hubitat folks are generally tight-lipped about future features, but no doubt are aware of this request.

One of the great things about Hubitat is that if it doesn't do something natively, there is a community-supported app or driver that does (and often, even does it better than the built-in implementation).

If your need is immediate, OwnTracks is your friend. Your location data is completely private and never shared with anything other than your own hubs. The key to making it work with multiple hubs is to set the Secondary Hub Configuration url in the OwnTracks app. Your phones will send their location data to one hub (pick the hub that has the most reliable internet connection) and that hub will mirror the data to another hub. You could have any number of hubs chained like this.

It's a fairly straightforward thing to set up. You can set multiple geolocations, including geolocations that overlap. It just works, and it's also completely free and open source.

I'm using this to control various things at our primary residence and our summer house. I have four geolocations set up. Two small ones around each house, and two others with about a 50 mile radius around each house. The small ones are used for presense detection. The larger ones are used to know whether or not we're in the general area, as opposed to being away for a longer period of time (for example to trigger a vacation lighting rule so the house appears occupied).
