I was about to reboot my hub for some routine maintenance. I noticed for the first time an option to rebuild the database on reboot. I did a forum and documentation search but haven't found any information for this option. What does it do and if/when would I consider using it? I assume it is not to be used except in specific situations but wanted to confirm. Thanks!
Hub Model: C-7
From the Beta notes:
It's functionally equivalent to backup -> soft reset -> restore, with fewer clicks and faster turnaround.
So if you are considering a soft reset/restore...
It's there. First result when I searched for the text:
Good information. Thanks for the quick replies!
Is there any reason not to do this? Other than it taking longer to boot?
It introduces additional risk. If you were to lose power to the hub while it was in the middle of it... not sure what would happen. Also if it for some reason does not pull a good backup it might stall out, you would have to manually restore it to another backup. It has the same risk as doing a soft reset and restore or backup/restore, so very low, but not 0.
What's the benefit of doing a soft reset/restore?
It forces a rebuild of the database which normally will remove any corrupted entries caused by abrupt power loss, etc.
The procedure now with 2.3.7 is to reboot with the rebuild option selected. This gives you the same results with one click.
Would rebuilding the database help speed things up? Opening rules is taking like 20-30 seconds for me. This is a C5 that has been going for a long time so could probably use some cleanup.
Possibly, it is worth a shot.
