Pulse Counters for metering / Zigbee / Off-the-Shelf Suggestions?

Now that HE has the capability to deal with pulse count input for meter monitoring, e.g. water, etc.

I'm wondering about Zigbee devices to interface to the myriad of simple pulse outputing meters. I've seen the Arduino related and Fortrezz MIMO2+ discussions ...but is there anything else off-the-shelf out there?
