Problems after replacing router

My hub is a C5 and I’m on platform 2.4.0.151.

I had to replace my router a few days ago and after that I started running into several problems. Sorry if the post is long but I want to try to give as much information as possible

It took me a while to figure out that the hub’s IP address had changed from 168 to 171. Once I got that I was finally able to access the interface on my computer through the browser. When I did an advanced find for the hub using the MAC address it came up with the old IP address 168. I changed the bookmarks in my browser to access the hub interface but I continued to get an alert “Cloud connection is unavailable.” Tried a bunch of other things including sticking a pin in the round hole under the hub without success.

I’m not good with routers so I had a friend come over and assign a fixed IP address using 168 (the old address) thinking that would solve all the problems I was having. Going into My Account/Registered Hubs I see that Connect to Hub is offline and grayed out. In Hub Details it shows the last check-in time was a few hours after the new router was installed. Advanced Discovery only works if I use the MAC address. When I do a network test Ping Host fails but Ping Gateway returns results. I still don’t have a cloud connection.

All of my lights are turning on and off on schedule so the hub is working.

I’m not sure this is related, but I’m also having problems with accessing the iOS app on my iPhone and iPad.

My iPhone is running the latest iOS beta version. When I open it I get a screen saying the following hub was found and it shows the name of my hub with (Unavailable) next to it. There is no way to get out of the screen. I deleted the app and reinstalled it but that didn’t help.

My iPad is running the production version and the same thing happens.

In an act of desperation I installed the old v. 1 app with the white icon. If I click on Dashboard or Lights/Switches I get a spinning wheel but the pages never load. If I go to Tools and select Connect to Hub then use the “hamburger menu” in the upper left corner I can select Devices, Dashboards, etc. and the page will load.

The strangest thing is that I have an old iPad running iOS 15.8.x using the production version 2 (green icon) that I use as a dashboard. The dashboard loads correctly. The only thing I had to do was change the IP address on some pictures that I use as headers on the dashboard page to get them to display after the IP address was changed.

Can someone tell me what is going on and how to fix it?

Have you rebooted the hub. Since it is a new router it may not have opened the port with remote access.

Yes, at least once, possibly twice.

I don't remember if I rebooted after creating the static IP address.

Just rebooted. Still no cloud connection

What does this test show

I tried both 1.1.1.1 and cloud.hubitat.com that's shown on your screen print. Both said "Ping failed".

If ping 1.1.1.1 failed your router must be blocking it (firewall) or your dhcp is not giving out a/or correct default gateway. Does ping gateway work?

Yes.

What was the old router you went from and the new one you went to.

If you have a windows computer can you open up a command prompt and type in this command and press enter

ifconfig /all

We are looking for a the IP address of the computer. It should have one that is something like 192.168.1.x. If it is something different we need to know that. Not all routers use the same DHCP Range so it is possible you need to adjust that to get everything back the way it was.

Did your friend set the static IP as a DHCP reservation on the router, or did he set it on the Hub itself.

If he set it on the hub itself can you try holding in the network button and then resetting the hub so it gets a IP via DHCP from the router.

If you cannot even ping an external IP from the hub (1.1.1.1) then probably your router is blocking the hub from all external internet access.

What is make/model of the new equipment?

The non functional cloud connection is probably the cause of most of your issues. Once that is fixed you can re-evaluate if anything is still not working.

Running ipconfig/all didn't show the computer's IP address, just information about the ethernet adapter and some LAN entries. I have an app on my phone that gave me 192.168.1.192 for the computer. I confirmed it by logging into the router.
My friend set the static IP on the router. I am fairly comfortable with technology, but I know almost nothing about configuring routers.
The old router was FiOS Quantum, the new one is FiOS CR1000A.

try the round hole on bottom recommended to reset the internet on the hub. only think i can think off is that the router does not know correctly about the hub and is blocking the internet via its firewall,.

you can also try rebooting both the router then the hub

The IP address will be listed in those entries. It will be a line labeled "IPv4 Address"

It will also show your "Default Gateway" and "DNS Servers" which are all important to be able to establish a connection to the internet.

That said I looked up both routers and they use the same class C network so you should be good there.

I think resetting the network using the round hole on the bottom as @kahn-hubitat suggested is likely a good idea. This would be just incase something isn't quit right from the way it was before it will reset the network settings on the hub itself.

How is the Hubitat connected. Is it plugged directly into the back of the new router?

Totally weird.
The IP address went back to 171. I'm assuming my friend did the settings correctly, but maybe not.
I went back to do an Advanced Discovery using the MAC address and it's showing 168. That was the original problem.
This is what I see in Network Settings:
Hub's IP address is 192.168.1.171 (Ethernet) via DHCP
This is what I get with Advanced Find:
Found by MAC Address
192.168.1.168

So if you open up a web browser and put in the below URL does the UI load?

http://192.168.1.171

It is very easy to screw up the Mac address when setting up the static ip. Check the router UI to make sure the Mac Address is entered correctly. If possible you may want to see if you can use the entry on the DHCP Connections section of the router UI to edit it and set it instead of entering it completely.

Speaking of that what does it show in the Router UI?

Yes. 168 no longer works.
The version 1 app on my phone is still looking for 168 as well.

I have seen occasions were IP's can be a little sticky even after setting a DHCP reservation. I would first validate the reservation is right in the router by making sure the MAC ADDRESS is typed in correctly. Then trigger a shutdown, and then after it is down unplug it for like 10 min. Then power it back on. Check the router's DHCP connections and see what IP it has and hopefully it has changed to the reserved one. Lastly I would do one final reboot with the advanced option to rebuild the database so that you cleanup any corruption that may have occured during all of this.

Why are we using the old app. Why not the current one?

This is the entry from the router UI:
Hubitat_34xxxx Ethernet CR1000A 34:xxxxx 192.168.1.171
The MAC address is correct. We were doing copy/paste to make sure we didn't mistype something.

We have know reached the limit of my knowledge of routers. I don't know how to get to the DHCP Connections in the router.

I downloaded the old iOS app yesterday out of curiosity because the new one no longer worked. The old one was sort of working until the IP address changed back to 171 again.
