I noticed that c7 hub comes with 5v 1amp charger and me being no electricity expert was wondering what poe to c7 hub adaptor shall i use ? I have a poe+ switch only it does not do 48v.
Thank you for reading and your suggestions.
My C-7 is running off this:
I’ve got two of these for my C-5 and C-7. (The 5 volt 10 watt micro usb).
And here is what I use...
Wont the extra amperage damage c7 ? Since the power adapter that it came with reads 5v 1amp?
that's not how power works, the device will only pull what it can pull (what it needs). If you have a 2 Amp PSU that means its capable of providing 2 amps, not that it will force that upon the device
Ahh thank you that makes sense. Alright i am in for a poe+ for c7
man am i glad i popped into this thread. i had no idea these were a thing. time to save some plugs on my UPS
I know what you mean. I just ordered 2. One for my C7 and one one for my RPi.
I would like to put one on my C5 but unfortunately I need to use an external Z-wave stick so one of these would be no good.
When you're shopping, realize these come in a variety of plugs and voltages. For the C-5 and C-7 the micro USB and 5vdc variety is what you want.
You can get them for Cameras too.. barrel connectors at 12vdc... and they look the same, except for the obvious difference in the plug.
Should work.. you have the "Y" cable right? and the power plugs into that? So why wouldn't the power plug of the POE splitter plug in there too?
The cable that came with the C5 has a USB plug one end. Near the micro USB end there is a 'socket' 'in line' where the Z-Wave stick plugs in to.
So what I would need is the cable that plugs in to the C5 have a USB 'socket' 'in line' to plug the stick in to. (If that makes sense). ![]()
Haven't got a clue what they are called.
They are called an OTG cable.
Here is an example

OTG.. yea, I was struggling to remember those letters in the right order.. but sure, just plug the POE's microUSB into the OTG.
Like this.. using spares I have... they're dusty because they're spares

If anyone runs a hue hub as well, I’m also powering that via PoE. Just have to get the correctly sized barrel connector to support its power feed.

I LOVE IT!
Hey thats a unifi switch, what poe cables are you using ?
Thanks in advance
As posted earlier in this thread, here is the POE splitter that I use with my Unifi switches.
I have not had any issues powering Hubitat Hubs, Lutron SmartBridge Pro, or Raspberry Pi devices using this combination. I have everything plugged into a Cyberpower 1350 UPS.
