Phone presence very hit and miss recently. Anyone else?

Over the past week I've noticed that presence detection using the HE app on my phone has become inconsistent.
It's been rock solid for me for quite some time.
Has the app been updated recently to anyones knowledge?
The app is running V 2.1.3.42(372).
All my phone settings are correct and are as they have been set for years.
Randomly the presence detection will go Not Present and then Present again after a few minutes.
I'm also using OwnTracks and Tado presence on my mobile and these are not going awol.
The geofence circle is set pretty much the same for all 3 apps.
I can get my HE presence back to 'present' immediately if I open the HE app on my phone.
Any thoughts anyone????

I found this post while looking for issues related to what we have going on. I have an automation based on our arriving home. I have been randomly hearing the "dad is arriving" announced. No changes other than regular updates. Had been previously rock solid.

One thing I'm going to try is expanding the perimeter in the app. We had it previously set to small as possible.

I believe that is the most recent version on the Google Play Store, but the more important question is "did you recently update to this version on your phone" ?

Since your "presence" updates immediately when you open the app, I suspect that your battery permissions need to be changed.

battery2

And as long as you are checking permissions, check the location permissions as well

Thanks for the reply.
I checked the settings and everything is correct.
Total mystery why this has started to happen. :man_shrugging:

This is still happening for me. Everything is still updated. Very odd. I'm sitting here watching a video and I can literally hear the announcement ofy arrival repeat several times in 15 minutes.

I've stopped using the HE app for presence detection. My phone just keeps going AWOL intermittently.

I have been recently experiencing the same issues. Checking permissions I had the location correct, but battery set to optimize. I have changed this to unrestricted and will report back. All of the screen shots were taken immediately one after the other. The devices screen says I'm not present, when the geofence screen says I am inside the geofence.

What else are you using? I really miss the days of Life360 integration

Owntracks and Tado.
Tado works brilliantly and I would say OT is 99%. I do get the occasional anomaly with OT but it is generally pretty good.
Also with OT you can define places that you can then use for notifications on entering and leaving those locations.

Can confirm that even after adjusting the battery setting the app will say I'm not present when the geofence tab says I am.

I've been having the same issues. It worked for me for years but recently became unreliable. When I look, I show in the geo fence, but it still shows that I have not arrived.

Are you on android or iOS?

android.

I'm also seeing similar behaviors with two Android devices. I've had this issue pretty much since switching to the New Mode Manager i think. On occasion it works perfectly but more often than not it does not work.

So this happened to me last night again. According to the logs, I departed at 5:25 pm and arrived at 7:54 pm then departed again at 9:20 pm. My Android phone was on, and I was home the entire time.
I've tried to simulate this by switching Wifi on and off, or even force closing the app on my phone and can't recreate it. The thing I find most puzzling is that the event is "departed" which to me implies that app is sending an event that I have moved out of the geo fence when I have not.

How tight is your geofence setting in relation to your home.

When a GPS receiver has access to a large number of satellites in many different directions, it can pinpoint your location to within a few meters of your actual location. However when the number of available satellites is reduced to 3-4, and they may all be in the same direction (like what might happen if you are indoors) then the accuracy could be as poor as 50 meters.

If your geofence radius is set very small, like just around your own yard, then I wouldn't be surprised to see notifications that you are going in and out of the geofence.

You can test this theory by simply increasing the geofence radius to about 300 meters (1000 feet) and see if that resolves your problem.

My geo fence is (and has always) been set to a several block radius so its currently about 1700 feet or 518 m, so I find that unlikely unfortunately.

I rely on Owntracks now - its really excellent for me. But I still have the HE app - more for curiosity than function. The HE App gets confused but a lot less than it used to. There was an update a while back that improved it but I'd already implemented more stable solutions for myself. One thing that causes the HE app it to go sideways is rebooting my hub. I had to create startup rules to override the state otherwise my Phone would say away/not present.
Owntracks has a nice status update you can force should it ever get wonky, but it doesn't really ever fail for me so it's one of this 'Must haves' for me.
I'm an android 8a user, with HE 7 hub.
